Spotted this beauty at my LGS yesterday, condition looked very good to excellent but I did not get a chance to handle or ask about it because they were absolutely slammed! Looks to be a Monson era gun, I'm not sure what all is included? But, there's a box below & $599 seems fairly reasonable to me as is...What to do? ***** I would look it over carefully. Bring the eyes of a 16 year old with 20-5 vision, or an Optivisor, or magnifying glass. Look at the chambers. You want to see SMOOTH & STRAIGHT, no waves, no roughness. The .22 Long Rifle is the most susceptible of all rounds to to abrasion caused by roughness in chambers, forcing cone, or bore. The .22 wants tight chamber-to-bore alignment. When the DWA .22 was released (built on M-15 .357 Mag frame), silhouetters anticipated a scorcher for shooting steel. A few of them were. Unfortunately, quality control wasn’t consistent. Some shot like fury, others shaved lead and spit. Sight unseen, I’d take an old S&W K-22. As well, a proper Ruger Single-Six can raise fire with the little rimfire silhouettes. Look closely and don’t rush. David Bradshaw

Follow David Bradshaw's advice. As a Match Director of 2 N.C. clubs in the '80's, I very seldom saw them in the winner's circle.

I had one years ago. Couldn't wait to get it but don't miss it now that its gone. Never could get it to shoot as accurately as claimed by all the literature of the time. Being a big heavy 22 and not particularly accurate, it went down the road. I'm sure others have more favorable opinions.
FWIW,

I have a Dan Wesson 22 lr. revolver that does not have a fixed barrel, but rather the shroud, nut and barrel configuration. I don't recall the model number but it is here in the house and I can look. It shoots really well and has been a favorite of mine for several years. It is still one of my favorite handguns for when I want the feel of a full sized handgun without the full size blast of larger rounds.

I have the VH8 (Vent Heavy with 8 3/8" loooong barrel) Dan Wesson in .22lr and it shoots lights out accurate at 25 yards. I recall having to hunt for a load that would shoot groups at 100 yards. But the search is the mission for me, not the outcome. Pure joy to shoot.

I am probably the least informed on fixed barrel Dan Wessons. Law enforcement sales weren’t going to happen if a cop could take a wrench a remove the barrel! For silhouetters and hunters the removable barrel was a huge plus. I am not aware of a fixed barrel DWA .22, the idea doesn’t make sense. Pistol smith and National Champion Jim Clark felt certain the tensioned DWA barrel was a boon to accuracy. Jim Clark, Jerry Moran and this shooter chewed over this feature quite a while. With release of the DWA .22, we heard a couple of reports of superb accuracy from silhouetters. And then, reports of spitting, bullet stripping, inaccuracy. Guns returned to Monson, with unsatisfactory repairs. Based on their experience with DWA M-15, M-44, and M-40 centerfires, silhouetters anticipated real performance from the .22 Long Rifle. recall advising a steel shooter who liked his to hang onto it, that its smooth chambers, bore and forcing cone might be a rarity. Prescut.... reckon no one need tell you to keep shooting your DWA .22LR. David Bradshaw

Had one a few years ago and believe it was a Munson, Ma. era gun... Had both 4 and 6 inch barrels and was an excellent shooter.
DA was as good as it gets and while no S&W the SA was just fine...
Sold it only because I stopped participating in large NRA Basicc Pistol Courses and just didn't need as many .22 DA revolvers as I had...

I had one about a year ago. It shot ok maybe even better than that. The issue I had was that in order to extract the spent cases, I had to tap the extractor rod with a screwdriver handle or something similar. They wanted to stick harder than I could push them out with my hand. Even cleaning everything and lubing would not help. Inquiring on this site lead me to learn that Dan Wesson quality control was not up to par on 22lr as compared to the center fire models. Let the buyer beware. R-

I must have got a good one, never knew they had problems. Had it since new, Monson 722 VH8 bought it from the Silhouette. Shot plenty of matches and I still keep it to the front of the safe, one of my revolvers I love to shoot. Had it out around a month ago.
