I have shot the 6.5prc with a 24 inch Mossberg Patriot. I have shot h1000 speer gold dot 140 up to 3025 fps. The best group I'm getting is 58.9gr at sub 50degrees 2975 and +70 at 3005fps group size is 0.87 at col of 2.940 es of 11 sd of 28 . I am showing pressure at 59.2gr. does anyone have a better load to get me at 3100 fps with a tighter group. I'm thinking of using the for desert bighorn or elk. shots will be 300+ I have a cm and Grendel all shoot sweet just looking at different powder options. Bonded core only , barns ttsx left a bad taste after my Grendel exp with elk .

Sounds like you've got some RL26 in your future.
How much past 300 yards are you talking?

nvcaller.... sounds like you lost an elk to the 6.5mm Grendel. I realize when an animal is wounded and not recovered it is impossible with certainty to know the bullet’s path into or through the animal. Can you describe the presentation & shot, and what you think happened?
Elk can be big beasts of astounding physical condition, and .264 is not a big bullet. Your idea of what happened----ballistically & hunting----is appreciated. David Bradshaw

I recovered the only elk I shot with the Grendel he was 100yrds away but put 2 in him quick. The bad taste was penatration through the shoulder. Max range will be 350yrds from ridge to ridge . I have bow hunted since I was 10. my average animal in 40yrs has been 60 to 30 with a bow , rifle 100 to 180yrds. But one mistake on rocks makes for noise . During sheep season we usually have high winds like 60mph with 80mph gusts and don't trust shots over 200 in that wind.r26 is like finding a diamond right now.

Sorry elk was broad side standing 108yrds 1st straight shoulder shot was trying to Anker him. He hunched 2nd shot 3sec later archery shot behind shoulder double lung dropped . Neither bullet was a passed through 2nd bullet hit one rib on entry and shed all of its pettels and became a half fmj weighing 50grs from 120.

Back on point anyone hitting 3100fps in a 24 inch barrel with a 140gr plus bullet? I'll try 59 to 60 grs of h1000 this weekend at 2.95 col. My chamber is 2.971 with the speer . No pressure at 59.2 I was shocked at the velocity drop on temperature 25 fps in 20 degree temp variation. SD and es seams to settle around 59 to 59.2 but velocity is right at 3025 . Accuracy is right at 1 moa. SD was 9 es was 28.

Well can't find r26 or h1000 found r25 at sportsman's , does anyone know about this powder ? It looks faster than h1000 and slower than reloader 26. But is it temp stable?

Well hit 3125fps with nosler and speer 140gr with reloader 25. Not bad only 25fps slower than Hornady data. Groups are better with nosler by .25 . H1000 did group well at max but sd and es was terrible. Next I'll load test for sd and es 3100 seams like a good speed.
