How does the 5-shot conversion rotate & index the cylinder without internal modifications? I know !!! Right?! Lol !! I'm sorry JM but I can't divulge stuff at this time.
And!! How could I forget?!!! (Oh yeah, time change!!). Anyway thanks reconciler for reminding me about the 45acp cyl!!! Of course there will be acp cyls!! I had one for my El Patron and it was an excellent addition!! (There ya go! Definitely the most versatile Ruger S.A. !!)

Groo here I may not reed this right but I would say a New Vequaro SS as the most work seems to be done to them at the factory. Every thing else is a preference of the owner. The FA 454 style and the BFR would be in there too

How does the 5-shot conversion rotate & index the cylinder without internal modifications? Pawl/hand tooth spacing is slightly longer to move cylinder 72 degrees instead of 60 degrees. One part change. Five shot pawl on top, six shot on bottom. Tim

My opinion based on a bit less than a dozen personally owned Ruger S.A.'s. From mine, an easy pick of the New Model Flat Top 44 Spec.. I don't recall issues popping up ? A second choice, the 44mag Hunter. Don't recall issues or complaints about them either. I understand to OP to want a 44 or more, "best", as in trouble free, on for specs..

One part change. Five shot pawl on top, six shot on bottom. Tim Yessir, that's the conventional way. Mine's a little different. It definitely goes from cap gun -> 45C -> 45acp -> 5 shot with no tools needed whatsoever. There's even a possibility of a frame mod (not a user mod.) to allow a 454 in the 5 shot version. That would pretty much cover the whole ball O wax. Hopefully this will be available this summer/early fall.Mike Maybe Ruger would start production then . . .

The absolute best “box stock” Ruger I’ve ever owned is the 5 1/2 “ blued and case hardened 45 Colt Turnbull Bisley. I would hate to part with any of my SA Rugers, but this one would be the last to go. Pretty close to perfect in my mind.

I like their flattops, but for "best-ever" I'd like to see a 41mag built into that Lipsey's midframe. I'd like mine 4,5/8's for easy carrying, and I'd want it finished blue. If it be at all possible, flathead action screws instead of pins too (more like the New Bearcats have) so a guy could field strip his gun if he had to 100miles from the shop someplace on the side of a mountain. Pins are a nightmare for such work. No bench out there, no punch set, nor proper hammer & usually lousy light..
I've had to take apart my NM Blackhawk, and Bearcat both in different intervals, and the ability to strip the gun & service it (remotely) if need be would sure be simplified by flathead screws vs their current finicky pins.
A sixgun like this, on the midframe flattop as a new offering would be DD tits in the palm for any rough service, backcountry outdoorsman. Be the ideal size and power package to handle everything the heaviest loaded Elmer 44special would, but have the added benefit of better than anemic selection for off the shelf ammo.
Ruger, your ears on ?

.41Mag Bisley Super Blackhawk Hunter. Wouldn't wanna carry it on the regular, but I surely love shooting it.
Given the OP's parameters, any of the blued Bisleys ought to be about perfect. I've not handled or shot one, but Lord do I drool over those Turnbull .45 Bisleys.
Maybe hunt down an early 7 1/2" Bisley?

I have 4 various in 44 mag. My favorite by far is the SBHH. That being said. None of them have come out of the safe save for 1 hog hunt since acquiring the BFR .475
I may or may not hang on to the SBHH. Rest will be sold in favor of BFRs

OK, so I see an early pattern of mid frame flat tops here. I don't own a 44 special, but maybe I should. Lets say the 357 mag, 44 special or 45 colt flat top might just be the pinnacle , what about grip frame XR3 or Bisley. And would this be the best ever made or just the most desired? I can think of a lot of reasons this makes sense. But is this the best Ruger ever made?

Also see the 45 colt Bisley and 44 Mag Super Black Hawks. Not many Vaquero's I guess I can understand that, as sights would generally make a SA revolver better. So maybe so far some choices are emerging.
New Model mid frame flat top (pick your caliber 44 special / 45 colt/acp) Super Black Hawk 44 mag Large Frame Bisley 45 colt Super Black Hawk Hunter 44 mag and 41 mag Old Army - black powder
I am surprised not many 3 screws so far.
