Who said there isn't a Santa Claus!! For a very long time I've wanted a portable shooting rest that was usable in the field but didn't always have to be carried in the hand, didn't have to worry about breaking it, storing it in a gun box when traveling, etc. & I think Mike, Doc Barranti just knocked it out of the park! In my discussions with Mike I've thrown some ideas out there & he's responded with his own ideas, and his have always been better. The leather master surprised me today with a small flat rate box & a little piece of magic that is really high on the "cool" factor. Almost always when hunting I shoot from some kind of rest, mostly sitting if possible & shooting sticks or other types of rests can be a real pain sometimes when climbing in steep, brushy terrain & trying to be quiet & mobile. For over 50 years I've used the Elmer Keith reclining position & been happy for the most part but there have been times when I thought there just had to be a better way. Well, Mike Barranti just nailed it I think, this piece of leather goes around both knees & when you spread out your knees it draws the rest tight & you have a little "saddle" in the middle to rest your hands on. This thing is steady! It will fit it a coat pocket & weighs less than a pound! It has an adjustable quick release buckle that is a snap to fit ahead of time, all you have to do is sit down, place it around both knees & shoot! Dick

Didn't get this out of the box until after dark but I've had it on several times now, even opened the front door & aimed down towards the lake just to see how steady it holds. This is going to be fun, once you roll your knees out it really gives you a solid rest. I'm really impressed with it but can't shoot until Wednesday, got to keep the wife happy with a trip to the hair salon!

That is really neat! On another note, have you dropped your Crocs and grabbed your socks?

That’s a great idea, I can see one getting added to the next holster order.

That is so simple, it's genius ! Somewhere back down the years, read somewhere, perfection is not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to take away. Doc seems to have nailed it !

Dick.... in the early IHMSA silhouette days, 1978, I tried sitting with a long belt draped over my knees----without Doc Barranti’s center brace. This was before I sorted out the challenge of Creedmoor with a sixgun. Prone, which of all positions inflicts the shortest eye relief, exposes skull & hearing to magnum concussion, especially when shooting over sand, caliche, or concrete. Tried the belt trick, along leather welding chaps, and a length of carpet-----which sideblast set afire----but not in tournament, as such aids were bound to raise controversy under the no artificial rest rule. Of course there was no backrest.
Barranti’s Knee Rest is a prototypical solution for increasing eye relief in sitting (a bit more extension), and improving line of sight. David Bradshaw

I've had this back on today & that little slip lock, for lack of a better word, I'm sure it has a more proper name, it's really a great addition to Mike's new rest. Very easy to simply give it a slight adjustment while sitting & you're ready to go. Can't wait to get out to the range & give it a test drive. We still have lots of snow so I'll take a small piece of carpet to sit on.
When in actual use I'll turn it over so the saddle is upside down & the Barranti Bear Track is down, plus the way it's stitched it will work better.
Ken, I'll be wearing something a little more appropriate for the weather we have, those Croc's just won't cut it right now!
I'm sure Doc will chime in & talk a bit more about his new invention, not sure what's he going to call it yet but I'm sure they will be available along with all of his other quality products.

Hope the side blast doesn’t get you! Having seen pant legs shredded, zipper blown out of a snowmobile suit and got mine blast shield just a little to far back. Have a picture of your pant legs before and after.
