I mostly use Unique, have used herco and bluedot because I have those powders. I have some 2400 too .
What powders do you like for .45 colt standard cowboy type loads and also heavier Ruger type loads?

I am a fan of unique for standard pressure loads, and a little over. 2400 works good for the tier 2 loads and a little over. Then, for the heavy hitters you can’t beat H110.

No 45's here, but I'd look at Longshot.

I've never accepted change well. I grew up on Unique and 2400.
But I've got to admit to using CFE Pistol in my 45 Colt. Even with vintage Colt safe loads, I get 75-100 fps more velocity with a 250 grn cast.

Real simple for me, HS6 and H110. Both give me similar accuracy.

Trail boss, unique, HS-6, and H110 seems to cover things for me, and I’m sure that could be cut in half if you really wanted to.

Good question, gsp7. And interesting to see what others recommend. Eventually, I'd like to limit my powder universe, like wheelguns and Dick.
For now, loading 45 Colt (and other calibers) I like Unique more and more. As long as there are published loads, I'm a sucker for powder recommendations. Loaded some 38 special the other day with Clays. Frustrating session. Very difficult through my Uniflow powder measure. Throws inconsistent. So I cleaned the measure and tried running another hopper through. Same issue...crunch, crunch, crunch. Thought, "There must be something wrong here." Then tried Unique. Easy, satisfying, fun. Apartment neighbors might have thought they heard a metronome going. How easily and accurately a powder measures with your particular set-up might be one consideration. My Uniflow likes Unique.

I’ve not experienced your “crunch crunch crunch” in cycling Hodgdon Clays through a couple of RCBS Uniflow measures made decades apart. If you’re “a sucker for powder recommendations”.... .45 Colt * Fast----Win 231/HP-38 (both are 231). * Medium----Hodgdon HS-6. * Slow----Win 296/H110 (both are 296). Reduce selection to two powders for Ruger and Freedom Arms M-83* Medium----HS-6. * Slow----296/H110. Light loads in the Peacemaker frame* Fast----Win 231/HP-38 David Bradshaw
