My brother in law and I found pig rooting in a pasture yesterday morning. So we visited said pasture about 10 pm last night. I was using my Browning X bolt 308, my BIL had his Henry 22 mag lever action. We picked up 3 this morning. 2 or 3 were hit but escaped to become coyote feed.

It is hard for us that live along the north border to grasp what a mess, the feral swine thing is.

This was not on the agenda when I left home yesterday morning. Being it is the last weekend of deer season in this "zone" of Florida I had my X bolt. Was wishing I had brought an AR 15 once the shooting started. The sounder had 20 to 25 pigs in multiple sizes.

Have family on the S.E. side of Tampa Bay. A few car vs hog accidents over the years. Niece totaled a car on one a few years ago. Like hitting a big rock. A lower, denser animal than a deer.

You say they will feed the coyotes, the scary truth is the pigs themselves will likely clean up the mess more than the yotes will. I run to Texas every couple of winters and try and shoot a couple for the freezer. They are fun I have to admit, I like the no season, no limit sort of game that they are. Keeps a big game hunter involved far longer than the 5 days I get to chase elk here in Colorado. They are sure tasty on the grill and in the smoker.
But looking at the damage they can do, and will do every night I am sure glad they haven’t encased Colorado just yet and are other people’s problems for the time being.

Fowler, you are correct, hogs will eat most anything, including other hogs.

If you move over to an AR, I highly endorse a suppressor. I have had hogs actually lay down in a field when they could not determine where the shots were coming from. Also look into a binary trigger. I always thought I was fast enough on the trigger when in fact I was not. I am running a ATN ThOR thermal on a 300 Blackout rifle with suppressor and binary trigger and several times I have run through a 20 round magazine and still had hogs within range. Be aware, the weapon will require more cleaning using a suppressor.

The hogs pass through, you may get lucky or more often, the hogs do not show.

Awesome! I lived in Florida and the state is loaded with hogs. Lots of opportunity.

Im not an AR guy. Tell us what a binary trigger is please. Pull the trigger, gun goes bang. As the trigger is resetting, gun goes bang again. Rinse. Repeat.
