Like I said previously, my 45-70 isnt a Marlin 1895. Its a Ruger No.1 and I had it out again today trying some loads. The bullet was a Speer 350 and the load its seemed to like the most was 55.5gr of IMR 3031. It was a pretty stiff load shooting from the bench but it was fine standing up. I dont have a velocity but book says a 55.0gr runs 1818fps. I hope to get a velocity later this weekend
Side note. That data was bottom end load for Modern rifles, bolt actions, and Ruger No.1s. It may be too high for Marlins. You need to check!

Thanks for the information.
I have had very limited time to do some research this past week, but what little time I have been able to. I’ve decided to start with the 405gr cast at around 1400fps and work up until I find my limits.
Thanks Justin

I dont have many 405s, but I may take mine out again today with a few 405s and she what it does.
