I spied a Bisley Vaquero 45 in blue that looks to be in good condition, 5.5" barrel. Not sure what I should expect to pay these days. Everything seems to double in price if you glance away for a moment. ;-) Any hints??

I'm seeing them in the Atlanta area for around $500 on the used market.

Are large frames desirable or no?

It's all I can do to contain myself from being booted off this forum....why are the values of well maintained the large frame Vaqueros always being talked down. I saw many in 2013-14-15, Bisley, selling on GunBroker for $750 to $850 and now they are only worth 500.00, my oh my !!!!!

Were they actually selling for that or being asked that for them?? I like the large frame Vaquero, my avatar is built on one, but I still wouldn’t pay more than 600.00 for one. I don’t see the values being talked down personally, just merely stating my limit on paying for one, I’ve bought 3 at less than 600.00. If you wish to spend more then by all means go for it!!!

Yes indeed Barleycorn outfitters sold many at that price. I only wish I had jumped on a few, they were all 98% or better. At the time I was focused on the plowhandle and birdhead frames. Out of the 65 I've purchased over the years I can't remember paying 500.00 for any of them, I guess that makes me a sucker for supporting the single action Vaquero values.
Hell I just sold a Bisley grip frame to a guy that's building a custom gun off the large frame for $275.00 and he was damn glad to get one in the condition it was in. And just think the whole gun is only worth 500.00, you could part out a shooter grade for more than that.

You are right. Parting one out will get you more money than the whole gun. BUT,,, unless someone is willing to go for a "project" frame, bbl, & cylinder,, you may not get more for one.
Bisley grip frames, and the hammers & triggers are in demand for many,, while the plow handled grip frames etc aren't.
Shopping around,, you can find SA handguns at reasonable prices,, UNLESS it's a model in short supply & high demand.
Me? I prefer the larger framed Rugers in either the Blackhawks or the Vaqueros.

All the ones I've seen listed lately have been north of $500, which I scoffed at. I would never buy another Vaquero without being able to shoot it first. Burnt before, never again.

Jpglsg, I don’t believe anyone said that’s ALL they’re worth!!! Just what we would give for one. It’s what they’re worth to us, not the general public.
As for parting out guns for parts, there are companies that demill guns and then sell the parts for WAY more than I’m willing to give for the whole gun, but there is a market for it. A quick cruise thru GB parts listings show that some guns are worth more in pieces than as a whole, I am willing to give 250.00 to 275.00 for a Bisley grip frame when I need one and can’t find one, would be cheaper to buy a complete Bisley gun and then sell parts???.............maybe, but then I’m out more money on the front end.

And just think the whole gun is only worth 500.00, you could part out a shooter grade for more than that. The market on many guns is cyclical and it is also regional. They are in favor for a while and prices rise. Then the market cools on them as people chase other models, and the prices fall. Two years ago, I couldn't keep a Model 27-2 with an 8 3/8" barrel. Earlier this year, I sold one to another dealer for $750 (it was in the presentation case with tools, papers, and serialized shipper) because I had carried it around for 6 months with no buyers at prices much less than they were bringing two years ago. Two years from now, the market may come back on them. In my experience, large frame Vaqueros were bringing more a couple years ago than they are now. Your mileage may vary where you are, but $500-$600 is all a nice Bisquero will bring around here unless it is 100% new in box. Even then, it won't bring $700 around here.

I struggle with prices because I remember what they used to cost 40 years ago so even a $500 Vaquero seems high to me (my first Python cost $375 and my dad thought I was crazy!). I did splurge and pay $625 for a stainless Bisley Blackhawk in 41 mag a while back (thanks to this forum for putting that bug in my brain!).
