Move the rear sight on a 1970's ruger single six.
I can't get that buger to move.

Soak it in Kroil, clamp it in a vise with jaw protectors, accomplish mission.

Also mark it’s current location, been hit it hard enough to drift it out. Clean up any corrosion or grime then return it to its location and adjust from there.

Move the rear sight on a 1970's ruger single six. I can't get that buger to move. BY THE '70s THEY WERE ADJUSTABLE SO DON'T BE POUNDING ON THEM. SOAK IN OIL AS IT IS PROBABLY CRUDDED UP. USE A QUALITY PROPERLY FITTING SCREW DRIVER BIT.

Mr. Taffin just pointed out we don't know if it's drift or screw sir.

If the sight is adjustable I'd take a pin punch and remove the hinge pin. That might give you the wiggle you need to work it loose. If the sight is fixed soak it with a good penetrant. Clamp it firmly in a heavy vise with soft jaws. The mass of the vise matters. Use a brass or aluminum punch to tap the sight. I'd go left to right.

Sheesh yes! Early 70s (Old Models) probably have drift-adjustable rear sights. But if screw-adjustable, you don't want to tap on anything. My neglected OM Super Blackhawk rear sight was frozen when I got it. Soaked it in Break Free for about a day and it loosened up.

We do need clarification on which type of sight it is. Ruger made BOTH adjustable sight models, as well as drift only models in the 70's. They also made them in Old Models, as well as New models.

I'm sorry for the delay for I've been away.
This rear sight is before the adjustable type. They are the drift type.
I haven't found any Kroil locally but it's been soaking in another type for two days now and will try again later today.
I've been trying to move it to the left thinking that if it moves an eighth of an inch I'd be happy. So, I'll attempt right to left as suggested.
I'll probably be ordering some these items being suggested.
I want to thank you all for your help.

Skinner sells a half flat punch that sits in the dovetail. Nice little piece of brass. Or I'll send you mine if need be sir.

Half diesel fuel and Transmission Fluid work well for me. Not saying Kroil isn't better, but it works in a pinch.

Found a local gunsmith with a vise and brass punch who could drift the sight.
