Was in process of ordering a Bisley flat top in 44 special when they shuttered.

They didn't go out of business making too many models...they could sell everything they made. Owner just decided one day to close up shop... Why he didn't sell the business in tact is anyone's guess... ***** You may be right.... I remember the Colt Lightning pump action rifle, especially in .44-40, seeing them here and there. Slick, exotic, straight as a stick and complex. To manufacture it again struck me as a gamble. And the Rodeo; had it been blued like a Blackhawk instead of Batman Ninja, it might have taken off.... I was fortunate to wonder into a pair of 99% E series Rodeos in January. I am very impressed with the build quality and I'm truly enjoying them.

Are the Rodeo models the same as other USFA guns except for the finish? Are they fitted as tightly and timed as well? BC gap and angles and square flat surfaces. In other words could one be used for a custom conversion without a lot of remedial work to bring it up to acceptable quality standards? I'm only asking because I have never seen one in person, much less not ever handled or shot one...........

Here's a picture of one of the pair. I found them for sale locally.

I have several USFA models including a Rodeo II which is the matte nickel finish. Other than the finish it is as nicely done as the others that are blued/color case etc. I would expect a matte finish Rodeo to be the same.

Built the same, less expensive finish. Think FA Premiere versus Field Grade.

Tim,
Lovely gun. What is the deal with some of the Rodeo hammers being case colored and some jeweled?
I read somewhere the jeweled ones were sold through a gunshop named "Longhunter".

Tim, Lovely gun. What is the deal with some of the Rodeo hammers being case colored and some jeweled? I read somewhere the jeweled ones were sold through a gunshop named "Longhunter". That's the story I've heard as well. Longhunter has a website and does action jobs that seem to include jeweling the hammer. Kinda like dressing up a pig to me with the matte blue, but then I'm not a fan of jeweling for jeweling sake. The one pictured has about a 2 - 2-1/2 lb trigger pull that is very nice so it appears to have been through Longhunter's shop. Tim

Tim.... you got that right.
Hideous thing to do to a gun. Same mentality would put gangster wheels on an army truck. Mere mention of jeweling has Sam Colt and George Patton rolling in their grave. David Bradshaw

Yeah, skip the many models - just make lots of $495 Rodeos! I'd be good with that!

Yeah, skip the many models - just make lots of $495 Rodeos! I'd be good with that! I love the “aged finish” look that some have done to their Rodeos. I have it on good authority that the Rodeo line in a lot of ways was part of their downfall. Same quality as their standard guns that at that time were bringing $1250 or so and then they released a line of equal quality guns with a very low profit margin that exploded in popularity. The Rodeo has a bead blasted and parkerized finish basically, the standard gun had a lot of polishing that had to go before the CCH finish but not enough to double the production costs. Heck later they did a line of “cowboy” finished guns that were polished and blues for roughly $795 as my fuzzy memory goes.
