Just bought a super blackhawk 44 mag 5 1 / 2 " barrel, on gunbroker it was used, but said to appear unfired, I couldn't se any turn line in the pictures, looks perfect, this one has the lawyer warning on the side of the barrel, so I'm guessing it's an older one, it is blued, any idea how long these have been in production?

If it has the lawyer warning, I wouldn't think it is that old, but I don't know for sure. The Super Blackhawk in 44 mag fits my hand better than the xr3 grip does. My 7 1/2 inch does not smack my knuckle.

5.5" barrels have been in production for a while, but didn't start until Bill Ruger was gone from the company... Does it have a Dragoon trigger guard or a round one...

The lawyer warning started appearing in 1977.

I believe Ruger introduced the 5.5" Super Blackhawk in 1988 or 89. I bought one shortly after reading of it in a gun magazine.

It has the round trigger gaurd, looks like the current ones for sale, except the warning is on the side of barrel, instead of the bottom, when it arrives I'll check the serial number, should get me close.

Rotating them to the bottom is the best thing since not having one at all. A little lathe or file work will fix that right up. This one had the label until Tyler Gunworks took care of it.

Polymer, genuine elephant teef, that's funny, I do have a few mammoth teeth that I found over the years arrowhead hunting, that would be interesting, I wonder if anyone could make a set from one?

If they are large enough they could. Mammoth ivory is very popular lately.

I have three of them they are quite large, one about 10" tall x10" long ,and 4" or so wide. They're fairly heavy being fossilized, if someone was willing to make me a set, they could probably get more than one from a tooth, I would be willing to donate the rest of it, seems like it would be a lot of work to turn into grip panels, I guess like working with stone.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to see that tooth. I can't imagine how you felt when you pulled it from the earth.
