Maybe ten years ago I was given a friends' fathers' old supply of bullets, about five or six boxes which had no meaning to me other than being old and cool, to go alongside old 22 boxes and full boxes of paper hull shotgun shells. As it seems each day I learn something on this site(entertainment each day for sure!)I read the thread about half jacket bullets and that made me go look today. The gun room is a wreck and will be until after we move but I thought what were those ones? I found 'em. Beautiful old box, seventy seven beautiful bullets. Thanks for the thread fellas.

There was a time when someone would have loaded those in a .38spl case with a standard spp 6.0gr of old smokey Unique and a firm roll crimp over the front edge of that half jacket and be ready for business............

That is a really old box of Partitions there. Weren't the jackets originally made on a lathe? Seem to remember reading that they were, and that looks to be a box full.

I believe so and notice that the address is Ashland OR, where they started before moving to Bend.

Dave Andrews the original ballistician at Speer always remarked that the 146 Half Jacket was kept in the inventory for years because reloaders screamed everytime it was dropped from the inventory. Because it was so accurate. I've shot boxes and boxes of these in 357 with superb accuracy. Unique and 2400 is a good place to start. They like to go fast.

I have a 1/2 jacket swaging die to make 44 bullets. Just never had any half jackets. Seeing this post inspires me to try making some jackets to try in that die.

In the Speer #10..this manual has for .357 both rifle and handgun data. To be clear, in the rifle section, NO data for these half jacketed bullets. Maybe John Taffin or Bradshaw will know why and keep me from guessing !

Thank you Doug, you are a gentleman and a scholar, unless you find those terms insulting.
