Boxes are made to get the gun from the manufacturer to the end user. Holsters are supposed to take over from there.

Extremely practical having a .30-30 in a rack riding right behind you in the truck. I still have mine there often. Sometimes now it is replaced with an AR, lately am 11 1/2” .5.56 and soon maybe my new 12” 6.5 Grendel.
I really like that holster. I’d like to find one for my Mountain Gun. Perhaps I’ll order one from someone. Usually rides in an EPS Tom Threepersons or 1920 Austin but I can see the utility of the Hank Sloan while wearing a coat.

I just found one of those holsters for a 4” N frame and grabbed it. Either the model 28 41 Special or the model 58 will ride in it. I kind of wish I had not bought the 58 since there is one for sale on the RF that has been hard chromed. Talk about a tough all weather carry gun!

Yup one of my first good rigs I bought when I was getting into handgunning 14 years ago was a Smith Mountain Gun in 45 Colt and a Milt Sparks AW200 holster. Since then other double actions have come into the safe but that combo is still my favorite double action rig by a bunch. I keep the knife on my left side though...
But for a everyday, hard working, wheel gun that 624 is as good as it gets I think for ranch country. Don’t listen to ole Rambler, cast bullets work just fine, get a Miha hollowpoint mold and custom cast them to whatever hardness you like. You can get them soft enough to open up on a Tom cat not trouble. Might want them a bit harder for a deer but that the beauty of casting your own and being able to taylor them to your needs.
Keep the ranch updates coming though, I really enjoy seeing these guns working in their natural environment.
