This TLA Improved #5 in 45 Colt just came home from Alan Harton's earlier today. I had him reheat treat the internals, rebuild the trigger sear with new tool steel and he fit the spare set of ivory grips I had in the safe that came off another another TLA gun that has gone down the road. I have mentioned before that I actually found this gun about 20 miles from my daughters house down outside of Las Vegas so I was able to actually look at it before buying it and that was when I discovered that it was a banded barrel gun. The only other banded barrel TLA that I personally have seen or owned was the 5 shot stainless steel 45 Colt another member now has. I doubt that there is a solid answer to the question of how many baned barrel guns Bill Grover built but I am pretty sure it is very few. While this one had probably the nicest set of wood grips for a factory TLA gun I thought it would be fun to have the extra ivories fit since they were just a tad too long and Alan could shorten them up. I was kind of excited to get this one home since my son took a weeks leave and flew up from New Mexico to go deer hunting and I am sending the only other large frame single action I have in 45 Colt back home with him. He will be taking the brass framed old model 45 John Gallagher recently finished for me since he asked that it be one of his inheritance guns.

For some reason the ivory highlights the graceful arc line that flows absolutely seamlessly from the heel of the grip to the front sight. Way to go Robb.

The barrel band looks like it should have been standard in all No 5 guns.
The silver/blue of that CCH is exactly what I would hope for on any gun I had treated.
Gun looks perfect!
