Just purchased a Ruger 5032 (45ACP/45Colt) and was wondering if anyone had one and what their thoughts were on it. I will add fiber optic sights, old eyes don’t see that well anymore, and may change the grips out on it.

I actually have one but with factory rubber grips. The throats were terribly undersized on mine along with a significant thread choke problem. Easily fixed. A gas checked 280 grain WFN style bullet in long colt casings will flat knock the snot out of a vehicle injured deer, but that is the only thing I have shot with it to date.

I have the same model. I like the gun, but the single action trigger pull is quite heavy. I shoot both .45 Colt and .45 ACP with no issues. Cylinder throats were OK on mine. I only use the Ruger factory moon clips, they load easily by hand, and I bought one of the simple de-mooning tools from Brownell’s which works great (looks like a fat screwdriver).

I had one but just couldn't get along with the round butt. I traded it for a standard 45 Redhawk. About a month later my oldest son drug one of the round butt 45 ACP/Colt guns home. Anyway all 3 of the Redhawks needed some of the throats reamed, and all 3 of them ended up with trigger jobs. Other than that they all shoot/shot great. I never messed with 45ACP in the one I had but my son shoots quite a few thru his and is happy with them. My biggest reason for ditching the one I had is that with my 300 grain WFNGC over H110 load the frame came back into the side of my hand hard enough to take the enjoyment out of it.

If so, I am forced to agree. My early Redhawk 5-1/2” from 1982 was a revelation. Whereas I shoot about any .44 Mag load from the 7-1/2” Redhawk without objection, my first impression with the 5-1/2"----and its first mag load----etched a lasting effect. The fine Federal 44B 180 JHP, over Ken Oehler’s Model 33 chronograph avenged 1610 fps, exactly the velocity in Federal literature. Rude awakening, as the thump to the base of my thumb had me reaching for a set of Pachmayr Presentation neoprene grips. Don’t remember velocity of the Federal 180 JHP from the 7-1/2” Redhawk; vaguely recall 1,700 fps. Attended by much milder recoil. That same 1982 5-1/2” Redhawk chugs along to this day, in absolute reliability. Had I tried too fight the factory grip, my hand would have been crippled decades ago. Bill Ruger basically copied the M-29 gripframe, albeit raising the double action hump 1/2-inch. Question: did your family .45 Colt/.45 ACP Redhawks have tight THROATS (chamber EXIT HOLES)? Seems the subject of .45 throat specifications causes manufacturers to dance around the fire. David Bradshaw

As the benchmark of compact power potential in a double action, the factory Redhawk grip exposes limitations of the human hand to absorb punishment. David Bradshaw

If Herrett's makes them for that frame, a set of Jordan Trooper stocks help greatly with heavy recoil.

It will be delivered on Monday, so I will find out soon enough how I like it. I will be running 45 ACP’s mostly through it. I have a good supply of them. (Dillon 550B and a lot of cold winters)
Don’t know how many LC’s will go through it, I have some for a Blackhawk I used to have. If I remember correctly they were strong loads.
It will also get a set of fiber optic front sights.
Thanks much for the information. I will check the throats good and see what it needs.

David,Yes it is the hump. Not very good at anatomy but it hits the thumb knuckle? I have fairly big hands so that may have something to do with it. The standard Redhawk I have now has Uncle Mike style grips which are bigger and doesn't let the gun move around. And yes they had tight throats. I am a huge 45Colt fan and bought a Manson reamer about 20 years ago.
bigtee. We routinely shoot my "go to" 45 Colt load, 45-270 SAA with 20 grains of 2400 thru the round butt and they aren't too uncomfortable. 45 ACP or 250 to 270 with 10 grains of Unique are enjoyable all day long.

I have one. I put the Hogue rubber grip on it and it is comfortable even with heavy 45 Colt loads. 45 ACP is very pleasant even with the factory wood grips.

Will the Pachmayr Presentation grips work on the round grips? I cant find any information that says they will work on it. Some of the reviews say they have replaced the Hogue grips on the 4.2 inch barrel with them. I would like to verify before buying a set. I have the 4.2 inch in 44 magnum also and it has Hogue grips. May need to look at a set for both.

To my knowledge, Pachmayr was the first to jump on the Redhawk, making the Presentation for it almost ummediately, when the 7-1/2” was the only barrel. Ruger produced many 7-1/2’s before adding the 5-1/2”. The Pachmayr Presentation for the Redhawk is THICK, scaling large even on a Redhawk. I whittled one narrow at the toe, which I should look for; put considerable miles with it on a 5-1/2”. I suspect we have Big Carl Cupp to thank at Pachmayr with his huge hands for scaling the Presentation model to the Redhawk and, later, scale the Presentation to the Freedom Arms Model 83. Pachmayr also adapted its Gripper to the Redhawk. Oversize, to be sure, albeit long and skinny, with finger grooves for an alligator sausage. Its wide grooves spread my fingers, causing vertical dispersion. A handgun grip must hold fingers together, not spread them apart. The Gripper does an even better job of saving the base of my thumb on the 5-1/2” Redhawk, but I had to whittle the grooves flat to own my shots. (Pachmayr made a Gripper for the T/C Contender’s “grip spike,” which is my favorite Gripper.) Pachmayr Presentation and Gripper fit the square butt Redhawk only. David Bradshaw

I got the Redhawk home yesterday. I’ve added the fiber optic sight, now it’s time to get it out and shoot some. Now the twins are together

I've got the 5032. Love the way it feels, and I really like the round butt treatment. And even though I REALLY love my single actions, if I had to choose only one revolver, the 5032 might be it due to the double-action capability for fast follow-up shots. And it is definitely not a weak revolver.
The only problem I've had with mine is during the disassembly. The pin that is inside the grip frame that unlatches the trigger group will not move, even after smacking the frame and trigger guard with a rubber hammer. Right now the gun is sitting partially disassembled in my safe. I need to either figure out how to get that pin to move so I can continue a complete disassembly, or send it back to Ruger for them to figure out, even though I hate to have to do that.

I like the round but Redhawks. Before it was a factory option I modified a regular .45 Colt model and cut it for clips.
