How does a S&W M14 compare to the M19 as far as the frame dimensions? I know they're the same frame size but is the M14 lighter? Both use barrels with wide ribs so are the dimensions of the top straps the same? I have a M15 and it is smaller than the M19. Is the M14 sort-of in between? Yes....I know the real answer is to buy one and figure it out....

The 14 is a 15 with a six inch barrel and Patridge sight. The 19 has an ejector rod shroud and same barrel profile as the 14. Toss up for weight. The 19 4" is faster handling and easier to carry and conceal, and it is a 357.
If you want to shoot bullseye, PPC and pop bunny rabbits the Model 14 is perfect.

The frame on the 14, 15, and 19 should be the same.

Yes I’m in the camp that believes all the frames are the same. The only slight difference would be with a 2.5” round butt model 19 frame.

Measured my 4" M19 and 6" M14. The model 19 barrel is a tad bit heavier, at least mine is.
Barrel width at frame:
M19 .717 M14 .701
The rib on my 14 is bit narrower as well.
Weighed the two guns and they were near identical (M19 less than half an ounce lighter) with the 14 having two more inches of barrel. As mentioned the 19 also has the enclosed ejector rod.

The 15's frame is sculpted to accept a thin ribbed barrel. The 14 and the 19 have a wide ribbed barrel.
The 19 supposedly was "beefed up" to handle the .357 loads.
These things are why I ask...

Haven't measured the cylinder lengths as I am recuperating from surgery but I think the 19 is longer. Barrel shank on 19 is probably a bit shorter.

The front of the frame tapers a small bit more on the lower front and they say a magnum barrel leaves a gap at the fromt of frame on a .38. The top of the frame seems to be basicly the same on the 15 2" the 14, 16-3 and the wide rib 22s. If I'm wrong someone will be along soon............
