Since this thread has also allowed grails we have found, I'll throw this in (even if squawberryman never sells me his Bowen "Couger", I'll be happy just to give this one a home for the rest of my days) my grail DA revolver, the elusive 25-9 in 45Colt...

That is one beautiful sixgun, right there. I've been fortunate enough to snag 2 of my grails so far, a .41 BisHunter & a 10 1/2" Max.

45MAN,
I believe there were only about 900 4 inch 25-9's made, so while they are out there, this is the only one I've ever seen in person. Fortunately fo me, it was for sale so I jumped on it. It has all of the final factory updates S&W made to the line prior to adding MIM and keys. Mr. Linebaugh checked it out during a visit to his shop and confirmed all of the throats/specs were right and this one has a really nice trigger. Other than taking measurements and doing a little shooting out in front of his shop, we didn't change a thing. I guess since I WAS able to capture this one, I should have used "rare" rather than "elusive", but it took me a looooong time to find one and for many folks, they never will. It's a shame S&W made so few of this model, it really is the best S&W revover I have ever owned and has edged out my 625-5 Classic in 45Colt for the #1 DA revolver spot in my safe (they only made about 1200 of those too, but I've seen more of them online than the blued 4" 25-9's). Add to that, it has those classic lines of Mr. Keith's famous Model 29... and that alone makes me smile when I look at, hold and shoot it.

Here is a stupid 25-9 question, does it have a square butt, or round? Plus one more, what are the updates?
Mobjack, Full of stupid questions.

I've been looking for a 4" 25-9 for quite awhile. Tough to find. And I've found a fair number of scarce S&W 45s. The most common one I've seen is the 8 3/8" Richard Petty commemorative as well as a commemorative called the horse thief. They are square butt guns and had the radiused studs and elongated bolt stop notches as well as an update to the yoke retention system. They were introduced in 1990 and discontinued in 91.

[/quote] No stupid questions there, we all need to learn by asking, reading or doing. As Mike said above, these 25-9's came with the so called "Endurance Package" and if I remember correctly, are one of the last Square Butt models to leave the factory before S&W went primarily RB on most/all of their revolvers. (Mr Taffin, Mr. Bradshaw or one of the other S&W historians are likely to know the details better than I).

Besides the Seville I posted about earlier I do have an actual achievable grail revolver that I stopped telling people about so they won’t be tempted to look for one. It is not a particularly rare gun but I have never seen one out in the wild. It has been #1 on my list for years but I just can’t put my hands on one.
It is a 629-4 backpacker. It looks just like a regular 3” 629 and has no markings that would let you know it had a special name. All dash 4 three inch 629s with no other markings are backpackers. There is also an alaska backpacker and a trail boss, both are clearly marked. I have seen those in the wild but did not buy due to that not being what I wanted. The original backpacker will always have a BRx or BSx serial prefix, they were only made for about the span of a year. Every time I see one sell on GB it seems like the prices are going up and up. Pretty soon I won’t be able to afford one

AS far as double actions I found mine and bought it for what I feel was a reasonable price. The 24-3. It is a fantastic shooter as well.

I did not know all that either, so in no way should you feel "full of stupid questions".

A Dan Wesson 7414 with all of the barrels, would make me a very happy camper.

Saw a pair of Colt Bisleys in .41 Colt in a shop Friday for sale. Well worn but nice, if they could talk. Anyone seen a cloverleaf revolver? Three cylinders in a cloverleaf pattern. Buddy bought a Connecticut Arms Hammond Patent single shot derringer in .44 rimfire in excellent shape. He is looking for 5 or 6 rounds of .44 rimfire to display with the gun.

MRI has provided mine with the BFR in 500 JRH. Only wish there were some after market grips for them.

I admire those of you who have "A" grail revolver. I can't focus long enough to have a single grail...
