I am done searching or chasing grail guns. I am happy with what are in the safe this morning since I know something like any of Elmer's guns or Ross's guns are out of my meager reach. I've had Bill Grover's' personal TLA Border Special and the only 5 shot stainless Improved #5 and both have gone on to new homes. No matter how neat a gun is, if it doesn't fit me well or if it isn't aesthetically just what I want, it goes down the road. There are only one I REALLY wish I had back today. The 3 digit triple lock, the factory pre 24 pinto and even the 4" S serial number 57 with cokes are all in good hands and I am okay with that. That is why all my parts for custom guns have gone to you guys and why as one good friend knows I even passed on some unobtainium parts in the last few days. I am resolved to work on contentment rather than gratification this year. That is wisdom!

I have come to realize that "Grail" gun is really just a matter of your perspective at a given time. I have guns in my collection that I never dreamed I would have. Nothing very special to anyone but me mind you but there was a time when they seemed so far out of reach. The quest for the "Grail" never ends, the "Grail" just changes. If I had to vote for a silly money "Grail" double action, Registered Magnum. Single action, Feedon Arms 83 357.

Agreed, I am done chasing grail guns as well, the amount of money that can be dumped on them just adds up to quick and for me the payoff just isn't there . Done waiting months...years ? for smiths to finish simple strait forward work like action jobs or shortening a barrel .The whole exercise is definatley an obsession with no end, once you finish the grail gun, then all of a sudden it isn't a grail gun any more and then its down the next rabbit hole chasing the next grail gun and on and on . What's funny is at the end of the day , my few "go to" handguns that always get used are just factory firearms that have had nothing done to them but maybe a lighter trigger spring installed or throats opened up, and with there preferred loads they shoot just as well as any custom I have ever had built.....and that has been quite a few . Ok, done with that rant

Tinker, I appreciate the original question. I also appreciate the perspective of contentment with what one has. That said, the dream of a "Grail Gun" is enjoyable, and for me challenges the imagination, as well as forces perspective. I do not know if the thread went in the direction you hoped it would go, but I am glad you posed the thought. While I'm at it, I'll add one more; Rex Applegate's 'Fitz Special' in .45acp. The same side of me that loves a good fedora also loves this pistol.

Mine are probably a few S&Ws. A really nice triple-lock, of course a Registered Magnum, and a 44 Magnum (aka pre-29), with the leatherette case, a 4" would be nice. I may never get any of those, for a number of reasons. One, they are all kind of rare. Two, they are all kind of expensive. Three, this is the big one, I'm a cheap bastage. I am fortunate that if I really wanted one, I could. I just would have to part with something else. Like a number here have stated, I too have a number of former Grail Guns, that I never thought I would have.
Mobjack The chase is half the fun.

I chased my grail guitar for a few years, just like I chase grail guns. I knew if I found that guitar, I would instantly become a great musician.
I finally came to realize I already had my grail guitar, I just needed to practice.

I'm a young 73 but I already have my grail gun. I've been a 44 Spl fan since I first read Skeeter Skelton in 1973. This is my grail gun:

Glad to hear that there will be less competition in the coming year! I'll continue to buy all the ones that I like and can afford, the hunt is too much fun!
