Thanks guys! Obviously missing the standard issue grips, but carved ivory Persingers aren't a bad consultation prize.

Colt New Service Target in 44 Special would be as good as it gets for me although I wouldn't be upset with a Registered Magnum.

Single actions, probably elmers #5 or Ross's #13 or the 475 he took to Australia. Double action I might already have it. a 5 screw 44 magnum which rivals the registered magnum for rarity. I saw that gun too... I should have bought it but you might have already gotten it..

I've always preferred Bisleys or #5's for SA aesthetics, but I go weak in the knees for this one. I could see taking one of those Dixie 44-40 Flattop Targets, fitting a 44 Special cylinder and finding someone to make a replica rear sight. That could be a fun project and while not the actual grail gun would be close enough to satisfy me.

..ok...if we are talking The HOLY GRAIL....since my favorite DA revolver is a S&W 57 with a 4" barrel....then Elmer's pair or Bill Jordan's that were the first ones off the production line would be mine.
I had a chance to bid on Bill Jordan's gun when it came up for sale from the estate of Rex Applegate...and didn't...have kicked myself ever since... One of the gun writers ended up buying it...

I owned a Charles Askins rifle for a while. Beautiful rifle but it didn't fit me well. It was fun though to own a gun with some documented history.

So, what is your number-one pick for a revolver that is out of reach for you? I know it's the double action forum, but I suppose we can bend that a bit if you must. Let's do keep it to models or custom variations rather than specific historically important guns. The S&W J frame snubs in 38 S&W aren't that hard to find, just a later issue.......................... Yeah, but those are J-frames. I specifically want the I-frame; just a bit smaller and lighter than an all-steel J-frame.

Already have my main Grail gun, the S&W 26-1 Georgia State Patrol Comm., .45 Colt with 5" tapered barrel (avatar). Very few around. Snagged one a couple years back. One of my most accurate revolvers. Other was a Colt Border Patrol .357, another super shooter. Have that now too. Both are a pleasure to shoot.

I would very much like a Merwin & Hulbert Pocket army, or a Colt 1878 Frontier, either one in 44-40 or .45 Colt. As long as I'm dreaming, it would be nice if a legitimate reproduction capable of withstanding modern ammunition were available.

Me & my Mom started collecting S&W pre-Victory and Victory models when I was younger. We still collect them to this day. Yep she's cool We were finally able to get one of the grail guns in the Victory model line. We found a Victory model that was shipped to the O.S.S. & have a letter from S&W historian Roy Jinks to go along with it. Our grail gun that we need in our Victory model collection now would be a 2" version which is really scarce! As a collector of LEO S&W guns, I would love to have one of the S&W Registered magnums that were shipped to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

I'd love nothing more than to get my dirty hands on a Century Manufacturing Mother Load. And not one of the .50-70 ones either. One of the rarer-than-hen's-teeth, custom .50-110 WCF models. I doubt I will ever see one up for sale, but that would be my dream.

A S&W Hand Ejector Second Model Target would be a DA that I will never be able to afford but would love. In a SA it would be a TLA #5 in 45 Colt, but I'd be pretty happy with a 44. I'd "settle" for a pre-25 S&W Model Of 1955 Target for the DA or an early 7&1/2" 2nd Gen SAA in 45 Colt with ivory stocks for the SA.

I am done searching or chasing grail guns. I am happy with what are in the safe this morning since I know something like any of Elmer's guns or Ross's guns are out of my meager reach. I've had Bill Grover's' personal TLA Border Special and the only 5 shot stainless Improved #5 and both have gone on to new homes. No matter how neat a gun is, if it doesn't fit me well or if it isn't aesthetically just what I want, it goes down the road. There are only one I REALLY wish I had back today. The 3 digit triple lock, the factory pre 24 pinto and even the 4" S serial number 57 with cokes are all in good hands and I am okay with that. That is why all my parts for custom guns have gone to you guys and why as one good friend knows I even passed on some unobtainium parts in the last few days. I am resolved to work on contentment rather than gratification this year.
