The guy interviewing Hakathorn needs to be holding that Python with the cylinder open or stop pointing it at him. Man did that make this video uncomfortable for me to watch. Pretty bad gun handling. But enough of that, I want to be excited about this Python reintroduction but in a contest with a Dan Wesson 715 357 vs a "New" Colt Python I'm curious as to who the winner would be.

Looks very nice ……hate to be a wet blanket , but to think that Colt is actually going to build a high quality revolver is laughable .

Colt treats the general public like lower class citizens when the military contracts are fat but then comes back to us every time they lose the contracts with a "but were Colt" attitude that says pay us twice what something is worth. Had they taken care of the AR and 1911 world they would still own those 2 huge markets instead of not even being a player in that world anymore.
YMMV

Colt is scurrying to live in the shadows of its former self. A once great company that built some of the finest handguns not throws them together and that is obvious. To bad really..... but knowing what their Pythons used to be I ain’t holding my breath on these. Their new King Cobra I handled was a joke!!! I had an original back in the day and these new ones are not them!!!

I'm one of those folks who just have to find out for themselves.
Where did Hackathorn get that brand new Python? None of us have seen one for sale. Special treatment for special people always makes me cynical about a review. He even gave SW a plug.
I'm an old Python fan/owner and I have to try that new trigger.
If the cosmetics are anywhere near the old ones, and they offer a long barrel; I will be in for one. 4 1/4" just wouldn't do. Like everybody, Colt has lost me over the last 20 years. But I like the expression, "the mind is like a parachute, it works best when open".

Colt did a press launch a while ago where some folks got to try them. Those people agreed not to speak of it until 1/1/20. Most of those people launched videos and reviews all on the same day. Definitely not just Hackathorn, but I suspect he had seen one before that date. Some people where aware publicly a year ago. Also, Hackathorn has done promotional work for Colt before, but I liked when he critiqued it, maybe more than he was supposed to...

I felt the same way about the video. Difficult to watch. I kept telling myself that the video camera may have "flattened" the image and maybe it wasn't pointing at him, but the more I watched the worse it got.

There is always going to be the new model vs the old model argument. What really irritates me when big name companies dont bother innovating anymore. I'm mean they could have easily tweaked the lines a little bit, made it stronger, different caliber, convertible or whatever and at the very least called it something else for Christ sake. If these aren't as good or better, I have to think it's just another nail in the coffin for Colt.

MSRP of $1500 is a bit steep for my wallet. I've handled several of the new Cobras, and the trigger on every one was superb; I'd be surprised if the new Python isn't just as good. Other than the fact that I cannot afford one I have no issues here; people have been clamoring for a new Python for quite a while. So now that one is being offered everyone's a skeptic. No, it's not going to be the old gun; producing a Python 'the old way' today would cost Korth money.
Yes, they've changed the mechanism. Back in the day people didn't generally shoot the hell out of their guns and expect them to last forever. Those that did shoot them a lot understood that they would wear and need maintenance. Today a gun that won't do 10,000- 20,000 rounds with nothing more than cleaning is considered junk... even though most users never put that through a gun. So yeah, they had to change things. Manufacturing has changed too, and as much as possible you use the tools at hand.
Is it going to be 'the Old Python?' No. Might it be a fine handgun in it's own way? Entirely possible. We'll see what we see; in the meantime I'm going to reserve judgement.

Reserve judgement I'm in agreement with. But, the best predictor of the future is still the past.
These people have a long history of mediocre at best products and inflated prices.
I'd love to see this pattern change. But, for now that'll have to come from change, not benefit of doubt...

On another note. It pains me to watch that guy shoot that revolver with his off-hand thumb pointing forward along the bottom of the cylinder. That's how they shoot the bottom feeders but I thought that was a big no-no for revolvers. But hey, he's the expert right?

RECOIL and GRIP CONFORMATION dictate how we control magnums and cannons. And a double action with exposed hammer shoots TWO WAYS. Does a skier survive the mountain knowing only one way to turn? There were some great Python shooters in IHMSA silhouette; I don’t remember shooter kicking another competitor off the podium by shooting double action. Question: is there time between READY GUN----or the LEATHER----and OFFHAND to cock a revolver? Answer: Yes. Self defense and hunting use much the same skill, often including time, or lack thereof. The difference is distance. Nearly always distance. And we haven’t even talked about gloves! To wear gloves and reset the double action trigger----to not lockup the gun! David Bradshaw
