I’ll be listing a TLA #5 in 45 Colt on the Rugerforum after the new year when things settle down. It’ll be a fair price. I’ve got bills I need to get ahead of and keeping it just isn’t in the cards right now.
I’ll add a link once it gets posted on RF.

So I picked it up from cowpuncher on RF not too long ago. It has not been sent off to Harton for the internals but he quotes a very reasonable price for hardening and some Walnut stocks. The factory stocks fit ok, Steve (Cubrock) thinks it was maybe kept in a dry environment and the originals shrank a bit. The metal is near perfect with the only mark I see at the base of the front sight (in a picture). I have shot maybe 80 midrange Ruger loads 250gr/1100fps and it's a hoot. I'd love to keep it but I just can't. photos.app.goo.gl/YguuNE7p4WNayH9C6

I think that's a very reasonable price for a 45 Colt No 5. They seem to bring a good premium.
Those grips look home made. No matter, the original stocks were likely plain walnut and this way there's no guilt in having a nice set fit and worrying about originality.

Those have the marks of factory grips on the inside of the panels. I agree about how they look though.

BTW, not dumping on your ad or the gun at all! I think anyone buying that would have it restocked anyway and you've priced it with hardening and grips in mind, so there's nothing to complain about there. If I didn't have my No 5 this would be the one I'd grab (and send to Persinger, who did TLA factory ivories).

I'll admit it's not impossible to mark K218 on non factory grip panels. Not being the original owner I figure original panels makes more sense than replacing with panels that don't fit perfectly.
No offense taken.

Very likely factory grips, even with the poor fit.

I'm not an expert on handgun grips, but as a knife maker, I have had un-stabilized wood knife handle scales shrink leaving the knife tang proud. It has occurred even if the knife has stayed in my shop for a few months. I sometimes think that here in Michigan it can happen just going from more humid summer months to drier winter months. It can certainly happen to an even greater extent when there is a dramatic change in humidity levels.
I purchased a mid-1880's made walrus handled knife some years ago from an Oregon-based seller. The walrus badly cracked after a year in Michigan. I've often wondered what custom grip makers do-aside from stabilizing -to ensure that the wood to metal fit doesn't change over time.

So it’s sold to a gentleman I came across on another forum. Everything was agreed to after I had already sent it to Alan for hardening and Walnut.
Doesn’t change to excitement I’m feeling now that’s it’s on its way back to me for a few days!!!! That my friends is the definition of the sickness.

This one headed to Texas I assume. If so, I know he excited to get it in his hands too.
