Tom Dont think you are the first person to El Squashala Madre an XR-51-so (Ruger old Part Number) Hahahahahaha! Memorized it in the 70s and 80s. Especially later when i just couldnt leave the grip frames alone. Actually i use to order them by the dozen. By the way sorry about the El Squashala Madre comment. I have a bad habit of butchering the English Language. LOL Probably Being a Rambunctious little boy and having a Half Cherokee, Half English/Russian Jew Mother. One Mexican Great Grandmother, and one German Grandmother and getting cussed out in all 4 languages as a boy for an exceptionally mischievous childhood. I Know that those of you who Know me would never believe that i was a wild kid but its true. But i figured if i was going to be any good at anything i was just gonna have to dive in. Didnt know when to shut up, or give up, so here we are. TOM You did great man. Until you get a real good feel for installing these things it always best to remove the trigger return spring. If you dont, you have to hold the two ears down on the spring and depending on the shape of the front strap it might not allow full clearance to go over the nipple on the back of the trigger. Therefore pushing up against it when you are trying to mate the grip frame and not allowing it to go completely up to the frame. worst part is , you cant see it happening! During this time of fitment you can easily miss the Plunger spring for the pawl being flattened like a mashed Cat. I became an expert with a drill bit or a paper clip that would go inside of the coils and bend her all back to some measure of normal functioning shape. So with that being said. Well done man! Now sand that mammy down and make her your own. Dont forget pics when your done. Love it. R

To keep from wrecking a pawl spring (done a couple myself), I cut a small right triangle from a soda can (very thin flexible aluminum) then bend the base at a right angle. The base sits between the installed spring, covering and holding it down, while instaling the grip frame. Once the grip frame has a screw or two in, simply pull the triangle up and out. Works great.
Cannot load a photo, but can email if someone can post it--that is if there is any interest.

Ronny ! Thanks a ton for your help, I have to find a better way to work on the grips, by hand with sand paper is taking to long. Thinking of a big sanding drum for my Dremel, but that makes me nervous. As for Butchering the language, About 20 years ago I spent s few weeks in Texas Running car parts to and from the border, I was there over Christmas, When I called My sister, after about 3 or 4 weeks in Texas , I told her " Yall back dare in Oregon, is a stawtin to tawk funny ! Love back to ya my friend...tj

Love back to ya my friend...tj ***** rococo.... neat tip for a way to flush the PAWL SPRING in the FRAME while installing the grip frame. N ew Model Ruger’s present a fit-up challenge to simultaneously index BOLT SPRING PLUNGER. PAWL SPRING, TRIGGER SPRING, and MAINSPRING STRUT. Sometimes it’s easier to insert trigger spring after grip frame is attached. Depending on the individual revolver, the mainspring may or may not be a an easy fit after grip frame is installed. There is a technique to assembling a New Model. The upside, Ruger parts are the benchmark for durability. tj3006.... all manner of belt sanders work for rough shaping grip panels and grip frames. Huge time saver. Equally important, a belt sander which has a flexible portion of belt travel aids shaping without chatter. Patience and frequent fit-up are your friend. Impulsiveness and impatience are the pitiless enemy of craft. The Dremel or other hand grinder is my choice for contouring the trigger guard and reaching where a belt sander cannot. A hand grinder is not first choice for large contour. David Bradshaw

David As always you sage advise is appreciated. My Cousin has a belt sander and I would go see him, but his health is pretty fragile ,( fighting a bad case of lime disease ! look out for tics !) I just might go to harbor freight and buy one. Cool thing about buying grips from Ronny, is that they are fitted to the gun already, I just need to shape them, That's why a said a BIG drum on my Dremel I think if the drum is big enough I can bring the top surface down, and match the contour Then use a file to round the edges. I have a lot of experience, with grinding and shaping, but that was steel, not wood. I am stuck home today so I will check out belt grinders on line. But the problem is I would probably almost never use it ! ...tj

Have been slowly working over the micarta grip panels with a double cut file. Cut a little, shoot it. Let it sit and repeat. The panels have a hump on both sides which feels good in my right palm. Reduced it on the left side which made a nice difference. I had reduced the diameter of the panels and rounded them a while ago. Interesting endeavor as a little makes a difference. The grip still feels large shooting it buy I’m hitting pretty well. Such a pleasure to be rid of those fugly rubber things!!! The design RW sent are the Bradshaw Bisley. The trigger guard marks the back my middle finger knuckle when shooting 450 Keith’s at a thousand. Doesn’t hurt like like a “&$?%#£€¥¥€<{{%*€ bisley though. Next is to make the grip frame look nice and sand the grip panels. Varmints are out!!!!!!!

Frank the problem with Men who were either blessed or cursed with the paw of sasquatch like me and you is, we will always have knuckle contact in some way shape or form. Unless we can figure a way to put the trigger guard 3 feet in front of the front strap, and still reach the trigger, we are just screwed. haha. Once you round it up a bit and carve a little bit out of the fat panel for a tighter squeeze on the front strap it will get much better. that frame is literaly 3/16 of an inch of added room. thinking about making one with a .250 set back. R PS. Really digging this extra large dragoon trigger guard moved forward an 1/8th Super Blackhawk and extended .300 thou longer! I can finally get all of my fingers on it.

I shot forty rounds last Thursday morning. She was getting her hair done so I was without adult supervision. I’ve been paying for it since with headaches and cervical pain. No knuckle pain. I’ll take some more micarta off I guess. Can always wrap it in duct tape if I go to far. Spring bear camp is soon but I’ll try and get some more blasting and filing before I leave for two weeks. Might even haul Black Beauty along.

Trail boss loads feel pretty good now. Much easier to control the gun with a cool grip frame on it. Just got to work up physically to heavier loads after a long layoff. Trigger pull is pretty light so the notch is worn again. Won’t push off yet but it’s coming.

Did you send the frame in for fitting the grips? I bought some of his blanks, just need to get my frame so I can send it to him.
