Man , I hate to cloud up this display of awesome by adding funky ,,,,, but I will,,,, just for reference. That 1860 seems to be what Herter's had going on with the Powermags with these big ole bellbottoms. Maybe a little more forward sweep on the front strap. Again , ahead of the time but He messed it up by using a flat sided grip. Slap a little wood on them and they get better, much better. Great grip,,,,, if you have big hands. The Virginian Dragoons were also onto a larger , longer and fatter grip . Overlay a standard xr3-red and the Ruger looks child sized. Even the Super BH Dragoon is thinner ,and shorter.

Spot on my Pal Al. That did not cloud up a thing! as a matter of fact it proves a point here. There have been a great many ideas developed over the years. WHY IN THE HELL HAVENT WE HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS FOR THE RUGER! The bell bottom i believe is more accentuated because of the smaller or narrower backstrap at the top. I am using the XR3 Hammer spring geometry on this one as to place the front strap closer to the trigger. which in turn allowed me two shrink the backstrap forward a bit and mimic the 1860 shape. However for a large hand you can really get a serious grip around the frame, and for smaller hand you can reach the trigger better. The bell at the bottom is the same as an XR3 Red it just looks bigger because the top of the strap at the thumb web is so much smaller. I will do some overlays for everybody. Thinkin about a hybrid 1860 with a bisley fat finger trigger guard for more knuckle room and a bizard trigger. R ps. darnit this is so much fun. cant wait to start doing stainless. sure would look like super nuclear kewlness on an FA 83.

So RDW, I saw the pic of your aluminum grip frame Bisley in 50 Special that you built. It looks like it has a regular Blackhawk hammer. If so, do they fit the Bisley grip frame normally? Or is there some kind of modification that has to be performed first?

In order to install a Ruger style bisley hammer in a conventional plow handle style frame, you have to remove material from the back of the hammer. Power custom makes a Dandy bisley Hammer allready modified from the get go so it can be installed as such! R

Dang it , Just saw a picture of the Birdsly grip and it may be the NEW apple of my eye. Visually anyway. Any thoughts on how they feel in the paw , pointing and recoil wise. Of course cool pictures if you have one mocked up yet.

Birdsley has a straight front strap like a ruger bizard. and a bisley trigger guard but on old Maxybaby i used a standard style trigger. The Kbird is a more swept front strap like the Keith # 5 and a real round back like the Birds head. I love em. the shoot great for me cuz i can hang on to it.

Although I think the Bisley hammer looks better, I prefer the taller Blackhawk hammer because I think it makes the revolver easier to cock, and it gives me more control over the hammer as I'm pulling it back. The regular Bisley hammer is a bit too low for me for it to feel optimal. Also, the Blackhawk hammer makes it easier for me to cock the revolver with a quick flip of my wrist, something that is a bit harder for me to do with a Bisley hammer.

Which is exactly why i used that hammer on that particular gun. That one (50 Special BH) was designed for the just in case Scenario that a bear sticks his head in the tent looking for a tasty treat. That would not be me. however he might think otherwise as for then i would have an easy cock and point and mr bear would be introduced to the happy hunting ground in bear heaven. I do believe a 350 or 400 at a thousand at point blank in the head would probably accomplish that task. Hahaha. R
