I have not so far found a source... has anyone found reliable reference material detailing what weapons were used by anyone in or working with the 7th Cav during Custers campaign up to and including the Little Bighorn mess.
I have seen photos of a Rolling Block Carbine 50-70, and am trying to decipher markings that may confirm or refute the notion that this piece "was there".
I have seen reference to the use of various arms other than Standard Issue by scouts and others ouside the ranks of regular troopers.
Anything, anyone?

Call the Little Bighorn museum. They reenact the battle quite a bit and should have reliable info

Got a buddy I researched his spencer carbine, that was used by the MN Calvary, that spent some time fighting with Custer in a couple battles
There are pictures here on this forum of the 56-50... would guess if you search Spencer and my name the thread could be found

de1216: THE 7th CAVALRY REGIMENT WAS/IS PART OF THE 1st CAVALRY DIVISION. THERE IS A HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION FOR EITHER OR BOTH. EASY TO GOOGLE. IN THOSE DAYS THE ARMY KEPT METICULOUS RECORDS. PM ME YOUR EMAIL AND I WILL PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH A COMPADRE OF MINE WHO KNOWS A LOT ABOUT RESEARCHING OLD CAVALRY WEAPONS.
