I'm a MKII kinda guy.
Zeus, digging the suppressed MKII with the RMR. That has to be an AWESOME setup!

I have one of each and both are quality firearms. The MkII was my first semi-auto and the MkIV was recently acquired to shoot Steel Challenge. Unless you are really set on one particular feature you will enjoy either model. I shot my MkIV yesterday so here's a mugshot:

Have owned or shot MKI, MKII and MKIIIs and really didn't fall in love with any of them until Ruger brought out the Hunter Model... Just loved what the fluting did to the balance and ended up with all three barrel lengths...4.5, 5.5 and 6 7/8s. Also added a Tactical Solutions 4" aluminum threaded upper to run a suppressor...
Much prefer the thumb-button magazine release and the LCI while unnecessary doesn't bother me at all. Would have preferred that they had left out magazine safety but since this is just a .22 don't really care. Trigger pulls are excellent and only the 6 7/8 needed a little work.
As to takedown...just never do it. Wipe out the barrel, put a few drops of lube on the bolt, spray the gun down with silicone spray and keep going...
Is the MKIV frame aluminum? If it is I think it would throw the balance off for me...
Nice looking guns however...have fun with them...

I have a mark iv hunter with a 6 7/8” fluted barrel. I also have the wraparound target grips. The whole gun is ss, and while it is a little heavy for a 22lr, it balances real well. It wears a 2x leupold, and is very accurate.

Forgot to reply..... the 10” barrel on the MKIV is straight and not tapered. ***** To my knowledge, MK II, III, & IV with screw-on front sight have UN-TAPERED BULL BARRELS. The original Bill Ruger steel frame, whether blued or stainless, has much better balance (and feel) than the plastic frame trying to pretend it’s a 1911. Especially atop a plastic frame, a bull barrel of any length makes the pistol top-heavy. David Bradshaw

Just FYI 😉

bushog, did you ever pick up a 10” of either flavor? I’m still curious how they balance with what looks like 3/4 of a pound of steel hanging off the front.

I've had a couple stainless 5.5" bull barrel mk 2s since they came out. Ordered VQ competition kits to put in them; but haven't yet. They've been shot a decent amount over the years. Don't really need the upgrade; but decided to spruce them up a bit anyway.
They've accounted for a whole lot of pop cans meeting their maker and several squirrels, rabbits, and raccoons with a few foxes, coyotes, skunks, and opossums too.

I enjoy my MKII, don't have any experience with the MKIV. I can't recall what this model was called? maybe a target model? has a semi-bull barrel that I like the way it handles.

470evans: That is a Mk. II 5-1/4" tapered barrel Target Model. It and the original Mk I 5-1/4" blue Target Model are both quite rare. I foolishly sold my stainless 5-1/4" version years ago.
