Actually, I call my Custom Savage .338 Federal "Lucrezia" now instead of "Thumper". This buck showed up 30 minutes after I got to my stand last Friday and caught me reading my IPhone. The 135 yards shot took out both lungs and shredded the top of the heart. He went down into a gully and stopped about 50 yards from where I took the shot. The Hornady 200 gr. Interlock is a great hunting bullet, it's a shame it was discontinued... Bullet: Hornady 200 gr. SP Interlock Powder: Hodgdon H4895 47.8 grs. Primer: CCI-200 Case: Remington .308 Winchester Reformed LOAL: 2.895 (2.228 base to ogive with Stoney Point) Avg. Velocity: 2636.69 fps ES: 20.63 fps SD: 8.48 Even after field dressing we could barely move him uphill, thankfully our 4-wheeler had a winch.

I agree on the discontinued Hornady, I’ve got a couple of boxes left for my 338-06.
Nice buck.

Awesome kill and beautiful animal! Love the fighting broken antlers, really shows character.
My father's buck landed the same way between tree's this year as well!
I've not shot the Hornady's but I've had great success with the 200gr Nosler Accubonds out of my 338 Federal.

Congrats. I love to read success stories. As a side note, I have to ask; are you into the history of Italian Renaissance nobility?

He's a dandy buck. Would love to see the size of the one he was fighting that he broke his antler. Tom Black

@burnston: No, but I remember reading that Buffalo Bill called his 50 cal Trapdoor Springfield "Lucrezia Borgia" - so I gave my .338 the same name! It helped me earn my nickname around hunting camp... "One Shot Johnny"!
I'm kind of proud to be called that!
