I'm not nearly as organized or clear thinking as I used to be. Used to be able to throw the proper gear required together for a 3-4 day snow shoe/backpacking trip in a few hours. Then...days, etc.. Sooo, for bear hunting next weekend am starting now ! Today, batteries for various light emitting devices that may go ! Lets see, AAA's for the head lamp. CR123's for the Surefire and the Gander Mtn copy similar. More for the bigger 3 cell LE/Tacticool Streamlight. Won it at a DU banquet. Then it's on to blades.. A Remington folding big game knife that has a clip blade and a gut hook/saw blade. Lots of deer have seen this knife. A Cold Steel Trout/Bird on a beaded chain, a "neck knife". Then a Leatherman Super Tool. That'll be enough for today. Wife is cooking like crazy, 3 meat loaves for sandwiches, and countless trays of monster cookies. My field rations.

Thanks. Having been a climber, but now 61 and finding myself getting "fumbly". No more solo trips to the hills for me, just not wise. Good gang of friends though.

I am prepping for deer season. It starts on friday. Went to the range to double check the 41 mag. I just shot it 2 weeks ago. Today on the 4th target it starts shooting a little high, and then the red dot starts getting real dim. I changed the battery but it stayed dim. So I got home, took out the battery and put it back in. Now it is bright again, but does it still shoot high. I can either go to the range again tomorrow, or bring the 480 ruger with the ultradot, or the 45 colt with the 2x leupold. Decisions decisions!

Yup, why I'll never get kicked outta camp, my wife's meatloaf sandwiches. Thick slice of meatloaf, between wheat bread. Ketchup and American cheese. Weighs a bout a lb.. COR has enjoyed a couple. Monster cookies..mmmmm..too. When eating lunch afield during bear season, watch sharply downwind, just sayin'.

The meatloaf sandwiches, if eaten soon after making, BBQ is better than ketchup. But after some days, it wants to separate. Monster cookies I know I;ve mentioned before. Recipe from a climbing magazine from the early '80's. Time to share another field treat. My wife makes stuffing patties. Years ago, with a LOT of leftover stuffing on hand, she thought to hand shape into burger sized patties and put in a cast iron skillet with some butter. They firm up a bit and get a little "crust". Over the years she has tweeked the recipe due to friends and family wanting them year round now. Mashed potatoes and extra sausage go in the mix now. This can go in a muffin or just held and eaten. Burger sized.
