I don't know why this gun has me more excited than the other guns in my safe. I love them all equally and I don't pick favorites, I swear! This is my first 45 caliber revolver (I have two 1911's) so it was exciting to finally have a revolver.
Anyways, I was able to get out and shoot between the morning and evening sit in archery. This was also the first time I was able to ever set up and shoot over a chrono, I think I kept it a little too close and too high so I'm not sure if my numbers came out exact as I had some odd velocities showing up. Lesson learned though and I'll make adjustments next time.
Center target - First six shots out of the gun at 25 yards using John Linebaugh's suggested load from his dissolving the myth article. I had the scope caps off expecting the need to adjust since I bore-sighted it just before and I never get so lucky to hit the center after.
Bullet - Matt's Bullets 260gr Keith hardened to 18BHN (I talked to Matt; these normally drop 12BHN, but per the Linebaugh article I wanted them hardened between 15-18 which he did free of cost)
Powder - 24gr w296
Primer - CCI350
Brass - Starline
Avg Velocity - 1380 fps
Outside Temp - 35 degrees
Thoughts - I think I could clean this group up a little. I was a little rushed in reloading which is a no-no in my book. When I belled the casings for the bullets I think I got a little over zealous and might have effected the overall case tension on the bullets. This may or may not have been the reason for the velocity swings I was seeing on the chrono; but those swings were on the high end, so my assumption was that it was catching the gases. I also want to try the higher end loads that are listed in the article, now that I have a baseline of what the gun will do and I know that this load will shoot.
Pay no attention to the lower right target, that was my 41 mag and I was just checking my loads since I put 50 together quick for the season in case I needed them.
