Anyone have any experience / opinions on the Chiappa 1892's ? I have been looking at their Alaskan take down model in 357.

I spoke with them a few years ago and was told they are duplicates of the originals. I personally really like them since they do or did not at the time have any added safety beyond the originals, so no buttons or slides. I’ve not heard of any real issues with them and would like to get one myself.

I suppose that I will have some experience with the 16" takedown Alaskan models in 357 and 44. My wife took a liking to the 357 and preferred the 44. So wound up with one of each. I have not fired either one. It is going to have to warm up a bit before that happens.

These have no added safety. I am not familiar with the internals of the original so cannot say how close it was copied.

I've always wanted one of these but never caught one locally to handle it, so I'm interested to hear how they work out for you.

I will let you know. About all I can say at this point is that the 357 feeds Barnes Vortex 140 grain copper XPB hollow point ammo which is a pretty long cartridge. And it feeds Grizzly 180 grain WFN cartridges.
The 44 feeds Grizzly 300 grain WFN and Buffalo Bore Dangerous Game 265 Mono-Metal copper flat points.

I have the carbine in .44-40 and it shoots just fine and ditto the function. Mine has the case colored receiver and butt plate, looks great.

My wife's 357 and 44 are still at the gunsmith. Shortening the stocks and adding sling stud attachment. The 44 came with the Skinner peep and Weaver base rail. I ordered one for the 357, it had the peep sight but not the rail. Current plan is to mount Trijicon MRO's of both rifles.

Does anyone know what twist barrel they are using in the 44mag? Wondering if they got smart and used a 1/16 or 1/20 barrel that would stabilize heavies like Garrett cartridges makes. Love the concept of the take down Alaskan...

Any problems with sticky extraction. Have you cronoed it - Sundles says not significant velocity gain in rifle due to fast burning powder used. TIA, Paul

Paul, The rifles are still with the gunsmith. I have not had the opportunity to fire either one. But, once I get them I will certainly. I tend to believe Sundles, and expect very close to what he wrote. I will try to chronograph, free time permitting. I need to check hand load speeds on a couple of other non-related rifles and some factory loaded revolver rounds. I am also interested to see what the 44 mono is doing out of a couple of shorter barrel revolvers.

Progress report, though slow progress with my wife’s rifles:
I picked up the rifles from gunsmith a few days ago. Loosely mounted a 2 MOA Trijicon MRO on the Weaver / Skinner / peep rail of the 44. Ordered, andhas arrived the same rail for the 357, as well as same Trijicon, and a standard shape/sized lever. All yet to be installed.
I have a pretty good case of astigmatism in my right eye. So by no means see a clear dot. I like the MRO. But these MRO’s I like a lot. More importantly my wife likes them.
Heck even with the astigmatism and realizing I will not have surgical precision with the aiming, I am considering one for my 45-70.
May be awhile before shots are fired. Weather, holiday, and work delays.
