I have an early ported SS Guide Gun in .45-70. While it's compact, the XLR balances better....at least it does for me. Speaking of 1895's, Numrich Arms used to sell smooth gray laminate stocks for them. I prefer the non-checkered design. Doesn't bite your hands under hard recoil. I topped it with a 1.0" UltraDot on a Warne base. Favorite load is a 465 gr GC cast propelled by 48.0 of IMR 3031. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Very nice looking rifle. I am having a renewed interest in mine. Sparked by this thread and the Buffalo Bore 380 Liehigh copper flat point. I removed the Wild West ghost ring sight, put a Skinner Sight picatinny rail / peep combo on, I ordered Talley detachable traditional rings to fit the picatinny rail. Going to put a low powered variable scope on it and see how it likes the copper flat points.

Thank you very much. Not sure if I’ll scope it or not. Has a Williams front and rear peep on it right now...... will shoot it a bit and see what I think.
