Just ordered one of these for my 480 ruger sbh. I also ordered the heavy duty weigand mount for the same. I have heard and seen some great reviews on this setup. I am setting up this revolver for hunting. Anybody with information or pointers with this setup? I am getting the 30mm tube. Will the factory rings hold up or should I get some different rings?

The Ultradot is one fine sight for heavy recoilng revolvers.
You'll not regret the decision.
Congratulations...

I’ll be bouncing back and forth between my new Ultradot Matchdot, and my new Leopold carbine red dot tube sight, on my BFR 500 JRH, to see which I like best... the Leopold seems more heavy duty / durable, but it really has no options, it’s auto on, no dot or brightness adjustment with lifetime transferable warranty... the Ultradot has variable dot and brightness adjustments... before shooting them in the field, the Leopold has a more quality feel... further testing will tell if the Leopold will function with a wide range of conditions
I custom machined my factory BFR mount to specifically fit both picitinny rings and mounts for both sights

I seem to have better results with the smaller dots. I big selling point for me was the option for a 2moa dot size.

I've got one of those mounted on my Ruger Bisley .45 colt and it's seen some pretty stout ( 23grs 4227 and a powdered coated 270 saa HP)loads and has held up well thus far. I think you'll like the 2 moa dot.

Mounted up both today (snowing outside) so playing indoors until chore time... I did not like the straight slotted screws that came with the BFR mount, so I pulled out my hex screw set, and replaced all 3 with hex screws... the rings I used for my Ultradot were a set of Weaver Tactical picatinny 6 hole rings, 30mm low... rings are perfect for this sight, but came shorted 2 screws... they are Torx, but I had my screw set, so I used 2 Allen head screws for now, and let Midway know about the screw shortage... the Ultradot comes with a sun shade, as well as a polarizing filter, plus the adjustments listed above... the Leopold much heavier hardware, quality feel, but no adjustments... will see if the dot is serviceable from dawn to dusk for hunting situations... expect it will work, as I think these are military style sights

WHEEL... are you going to use the no drill mount, or a drill and tap mount on your 480???
Looking at bases for my 480 super Blackhawk as well... Weigland no drill on the website says good through 44 magnums
I’m actually looking at EGW’s drill and tap base

BTW... spent a little time with the Leopold... the battery cap is a push button, and it offers 5 brightness settings and is a 1 MOA dot and extremely fine lenses

I am going to use a no drill and tap mount, but it is the one specific to the .454-.480 sbh with the 6 1/2” barrel. You remove the front sight blade and a collar slides around the base in the front, and in the rear it mounts in the rear sight slot. It has a recoil lug that mounts on the bottom in the back.

Let us know which is thought to be the best for hunting. Bad weather, variable lighting, ATV rides, etc..

hope "ya all" don't mind if I post a couple pictures here... my BFR with the custom machined mount ( to fit both Picatinny mounts for the 2 dot sights ) also added hex head screws rather than the factory straight slotted screws BFR with Ultradot, with sun shade installed & polarizing filter under... also that is a 2 Dogs BFR front sight mounted up front Leupold Sight's Picatinny lugs on underside... note much larger hardware than is found on the Ultradot... BFR with Leupold sight mounted... I would have liked it further back, but with the lug spacing & the screws on the factory mount, this was the furthest back it could be mounted, without removing one of the lugs on the Leupold base ( which I may still do in the future )

Wow, that Leupold sight sits really high above the bore.

more than I like.... might have to scrap that base for a set of rings if I can... thinking the sight is bigger or an odd size ( that base comes with it ) This looks a little more my speed... if steel is chosen, you can choose a medium height, & 34mm that the tube is listed as on the Leupold sight... www.midwayusa.com/product/1548235656or these for about 1/2 the price... www.midwayusa.com/product/1477180081?pid=180081
