As I get older I tend to prefer quality over quantity and find myself in need of a new single action. The 10mm being my favorite cartridge I have decided to get one of the Ruger Blackhawks and have a few changes made. I want to have the .40 S&W cylinder rechambered to .38-40 WCF, a Bisley grip frame installed with appropriate trigger and hammer, a gold bead front sight, action job and free spin pawl and then add some fancy walnut grips by Scott Kolar. I am considering Clements, Reeder and Powers at the moment. Who would you recommend that I send the gun to?

Very similar to my current Clements Project. The 38-40 is no slouch in the power department when loaded in modern guns.
Probably any of your mentioned gunsmiths can do the job. So, I'll not get in on that.
Hope you'll keep us posted as your project progresses.

Might as well look at Bowen and Huntington also. Are you starting with a 10mm/40S&W convertible?

Great idea, but my preference would be to start with a mid-frame flat top 357/9mm convertible. Ream cylinders, rebarrel.
For that third cylinder, you can send the frame to Ruger saying you lost the 9mm cylinder and they’ll fit s new one cheaper than scratch made.

Nice project...the 10mm is my #2 semi-auto cartridge the .38 Super being #1...
One suggestion would be to find a third cylinder, fit it to the gun and have it reamed to .38-40 vs. having the .40 S&W cylinder done...that way you have the whole .40/10mm calibers covered. 40 S&W is much easier to find in the middle of nowhere than the 10mm or 38-40...just in case....

I agree with Encore64, all your choices are good ones. A modern low tolerance 38-40, is a great all around, general purpose handgun, I’ve thought about a shorty myself for everyday carry during hunting season and ranch duties.

Mine will be stainless with the following options. Not a complete list, but... 1) 38-40 and 10mm cylinders 2) white vertical line front sight 3) white outlined rear sight 4) claro walnut grips 5) crescent ejector rod 6) matte and polished finish 7) SBH Hammer Then a host of internal features. Action job, Power Custom Springs, #5 Keith Style Base Pin, polished throat and bore, target crown, etc. Just have fun making plans to build your custom your way. Ideas from others help, but do it your way.

I have new in box 50th 357 flat top I bought when they were issued. I plan on having done like Eskimos sweet revolver by Andy Horvath

How big a pain would it be to have a 5 inch barrel with a full length ejector housing (steel of course)?
