a bunch ! As i found out again today, Had two boxes of reloads for my 06, ( a really clean JC Higgins model 50 i found at a Hawk shop cheap ) . 150 grain speer hot core over IMR 4350. 1 box was 58 grains 1 box 58.5. Both boxes were plenty accurate. So i let the rifle cool, set up the chrony , fired the 58 grain load. 2804. Not fast enough ! would rather shoot a .308 if 2800 is enough ! Shot the 28.5 grain load 2907. Did not think a half grain of powder would cause 100 ft increase ! Grabbed my load book for the rifle, And figured it out quick. the slow load was Winchester cases, the fast load was remington When i got home i put a spent case from each brand on my scale. 5 grains lighter for the Win ! My guess is the 1/2 gran of powder was responsible for 20 or 25 fps, and the tighter case capacity was the reason for the other 75 or 80 fps. Re sized and primed the 20 remingtons. might use the same load , for deer, might try another half grain. 2900 is good, enough, though, And i got a cold barrel 1/2 inch 3 shot group. When she got hot they were no worse that 1.5. The JC higgins model 50 for 350.00 was a steal ! I put a timney in it, and man that was a job to inlet the stock for it. Whoever dreamed up the trigger system hi standard used when putting those together was a strange man ! ...tj3006

The issue I always had with Remington brass was they are heavier (obviously you see that) and the brass is really soft. They seem to stretch way more than other brands shot to shot, get brittle quickly, and have half the life of pretty much any other brand of brass. I hate the stuff but for some calibers it was tough to avoid, 280 Remington used to be really hard to get in anything other than Remington without buying loaded ammo for the brass but such was life. Happily I found Hornady new brass at Sportsmans a few years ago and spent a small fortune for 100 cases and I am set now...

Both in longevity and where you find MAX, a good bit of difference. I've some very old FC 44mag brass that is still in use. Recently saw a 50-60 fps difference between loads in 480 Ruger that only differed by brass, Hornady vs Starline.

for handguns, i like Starline ! for everything else i like winchester, Because its smooth going in the chamber. the serace has les friction. I have yet to notice the remington stretching, thing. Except in my savage 99s. Everything stretches in those. I am using Remington 30,06 this year, if i take a back up, it will probably be a 308 with winchester cases. But i sort of want to take my 7X57, Just cause its shoots 140 grain sierra flat based bullets into teeny little clusters. And at a speed that makes me wonder why i didn't sell my 7mm Mag sooner !
