I've gotten frisky with my Buckeye using "Ruger only" .45Colt for reference but got sticky extraction. Presumably because the chambers are a wee bit rough and the cases are thin. I didn't really pursue it because there were no decent bullets suitable for higher velocities. I believe this is true from my research as well. Reeder built me a great, tight chambered cylinder that eliminated those problems. Also, his reamer was matched to the excellent brass. I've loaded 200 grn to 1600 fps and cases drop out. For tough bullets I've turned to hard cast from several manufacturers including Montana Bullets. For tough jacketed bullets, Hawk makes great ones. Many of the available cast bullets can be had in the same alloy as 454 Casull bullets. In the right gun, this is a flat shooting, hard hitting cartridge.
