NICE SHOOTING, GREAT GUN, PRETTY GRIPS. I THINK THEY ONLY MADE OM 45 COLTS FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. MY FIRST HANDGUNNED DEER WERE WITH AN OM 7 1/2 INCH 45. SIXSHOT HAS INSPIRED ME AND I AM GOING TO PULL MY OM OUT AND ENJOY IT AGAIN, AND PROBABLY USE A 9grs OF UNIQUE LOAD UNDER A 255 SWC. I EVEN BEEN THINKING OF USING THE 45 ACP CYLINDER TOO, WHICH IS DARN NEAR NEW.

Many people miss out on extra fun by not using the ACP cylinders in their convertible Rugers and FAs. Mine have been superbly accurate.

Many people miss out on extra fun by not using the ACP cylinders in their convertible Rugers and FAs. Mine have been superbly accurate. I had the 45 acp cylinder from my OM 45 converted to 460 Rowland. I quite like that cartridge. More power than a 10mm in my humble opinion.

I’ve been playing with my OM 4 5/8, 44mag. Getting it ready for this season, using one of Matt’s 300gr HP’s. I’ve got some Swedish friends coming over to hunt this year and handguns are not allowed there, so they’re excited to try.

Thanks guys, I'm having a great time with this old 45 & it will shoot better. I'll test drive it again today but needed some water yesterday, it was hot! Also I'll test drive the ACP cylinder for the first time. This baby really smacks those steel clangers, you can really tell it at 40 yds. I'm guessing all of you noticed the piece of leather I throw over my legs, sure makes it nice so you don't get hot powder gases burning you, hard to bail out of the reclining position very fast when your legs are on fire. Actually I have to thank Rey for lighting the 45 fire under me again, it's such a great caliber & I'm getting back in the groove! Oh, Ken, got the extra piece of leather at Salano's!!

I know I am a bit different but I just don't get the idea for switch cylinder guns and I have a couple of them. I know they are popular and with adjustable sights they make some logic, but then you see these 3 cylinder fixed sight guns and all I can do is shake my head, hard enough to find one load that shoots to the fixed sights but now try and hit with 3 different cartridges with a fixed sighted gun? Seems the definition of insanity to me.
Now if all you shot was factory ammo I can see the advantage of ammo availability and reduced cost of 45 acp over 45 colt ammo for instance. But for the handloader they cost exactly the same to load and shoot. Set the sights up for the load you like and shoot the snot out of the gun. Sight changes are minor switching within a caliber but jumping from a 158gr 357 to a 115gr 9mm would have to be big sight adjustments.
My Freedom Arms 83 is a 475 Linebaugh and came with a extra 480 Ruger cylinder, I shot the 475 cylinder initially and someone gave me a bunch of 480 brass and well the 475 cylinder hasnt been in the gun in 10 years Id guess. The 480 can do everything I want the gun to do and I have a pile of 480 brass now.
Now what I wish is that I had the time to get as good as Dick is with one gun and load...
Just my 2 cents YMMV

Idaho must be god's country.
I'm just guessing that sixshot isn't driving a hundred miles to an indoor range like the other 50 million of us.
Even Dick's writing style takes me back home. Moving my lawn chair to the shade isn't allowed at the firing lines in the city.
Thanks for sharing Dick. Makes my day to know that someone out there had the good sense to not live in town.

Prescut, we have 2 stop lights in town & if both of them are green when I go by I can be to the range in about 4 minutes! And it's never crowded & it's free to anyone. We have a covered rifle range out to 300 yds with 7 concrete benches, we have a covered rimfire range out to 100 yds with several shooting benches, we have a covered big bore Silhouette range with plenty of space for 4 shooters & we have 7 pistol bays with steel targets, most of them made by me for anyone to shoot at with handguns. Over the years we've received quite a bit of Friends of the NRA money, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation money, etc & we have one of he nicest ranges for several hundred miles, people come from all over to enjoy our range & again, it's free, we do except donations but charge nothing. Many of the forum members have been here before, they know how nice it is. We also have 3 large storage containers full of really nice steel targets I didn't make for our regular matches. We have 3 matches every week & shoot year round. Local law enforcement also has a range right next to ours. We are very, very lucky!

Dick, If you want to talk Shane into doing a project for you, I just found a 6 1/2" S&W ribbed 45 Colt barrel that would work great on that old 45 and give it a distinct look!

Sixshot,
Some day I have to make it out to your neck of the woods.
Thanks, Buzz

I'm one of the lucky ones who has enjoyed the range mentioned above. And yes,, it is nice to have a range so close. But hey,, you ARE in Idaho,, not the urban sprawl so many suffer from. And I also own a range. But mine is not open to the public,, because of one simple thing. Liability. Throw in the fact that many folks in my neck of the wood fail to RESPECT property & will shoot up & damage stuff w/o remorse.
So,, Dick does have a sweet place & it is quite nice there.

Thanks for the report on your OM 45, Dick. I'm curious to know your experience if you get the ACP cylinder out. My OM 45's ACP cylinder seems to be too tight. I have to push bullets deep or the cartridge sticks out and the cylinder won't turn. Even with some factory cartridges. My OM 9mm cylinder is tight too. Your range is awesome!
