THE BARNES BUSTER IS NOT MONO-METAL, IT IS A FMJ LEAD CORE BULLET, VERY WELL CONSTRUCTED. With a tiny, tiny meplat.... I DEFINITELY WISH THE MEPLAT WERE WIDER.

Here's a couple of photo's of the 185 gr Barnes X 338 bullet I recovered from my Blue Wildebeest taken at 88 yds as it faced me almost straight on. I was shooting an Encore 338/284 handgun, not a revolver. When I shot single shots for hunting I always dropped down 1 or 2 bullet weights especially when shooting Barnes X bullets. They have to be pushed hard to work & in a handgun you can't use the heavier weights & expect to get good results on big game, doesn't happen. The Wildebeest was walking through some brush & Mopane & spotted us, I knelt down & had to "thread" the needle to make the shot. It hit the edge of the right front shoulder & went all the way across the body & broke the left hind leg. A cup & core bullet would have cost me that animal for sure. Dick

wondering about their TAC XP bullets for the Dan Wesson 357 Max... something like this www.midwayusa.com/product/1010858688for deer sized game... guessing the Max might even push these faster than they were designed for???

I was looking at the 140gr XPB, and wondering if pushing it fast would essentially create the issue that “blackened” the 357max’s reputation??? I think the 110gr or 125gr would be worse, if pushed at max speed. I also don’t think you’d really gain anything substantial over a heavier standard cup and core bullet at normal revolver distances, however these are the examples or comparisons that would be nice to see in actual field use.

I was curious if the had been any formal penetration testing done on the wide flat nose mono bullets? I have read of performance on game. It makes sense that mono bullets would penetrate better. I believe those of you that are experienced with them. I just think seeing testing data would be cool.

Thanks Max, good to know! New to the group and to mono bullets. Been shooting hard cast for 40 years.
