The first custom gun I ever had was done by Andy 26 years ago. I've had Andy do bunches of work since then, but never a full house custom. I decided to take care of that oversight recently and here is the result. I did forget to have him put in a pinned in front sight blade so it will be going back to have that taken care of. Gun is a 45 colt built on a flattop 44 mag. Also had him fit a 45 acp cylinder. Andy Made the grips out of some wood I provided. Andy also did action work, relieved the hammer well so hammer doesn't rub, added new base pin, fit power custom grip frame and a few other odds and ends. Case Color is by Turnbull. When I first got it I was a bit disappointed that the case color looks much nicer on one side than the other. Haven't decided if my level of annoyance has reached a level where I ask Turnbull to take another shot at it while Andy has the barrel off. Any thoughts?

Not much room for improvement with that one! Love the PC grip frame with those one piece walnuts. That frame nose/S&W barrel he does can't be beat. His finish work is really nice.
I agree, the front sight needs to be pinned or screwed on (personal taste so the blades can be touched up or swapped easily).
I like both sides of the frame equally, and prefer the silver/blue that you got. I wouldn't have it re-CCH. The pattern on the two sides is very symmetrical except the blues don't quite connect on the right side.

I'm always impressed with Andy's grip work. Hard to tell from the pictures, but they are fit as nicely as any I've seen and feel great to boot.

If it were me I would leave the coloring the way it is. I think it looks great and I agree, Andy does a great job with Smith barrels on Rugers.

One of the neatest things I ever liked about color case is that each piece and even surface of finished metal parts becomes its own unique piece like wood etc

I like it as is, not sure I’d make any changes at all.

Really nice! Looks a lot like the .41 Special I had built by Andy. He does the brass grip frames right. I have a .45 Colt Bisley with a brass grip frame at his shop now. My coloring came out the same way. Are we sure Turnbull is doing it? singleactions.proboards.com/thread/22979/real-gem

Your coloring to me looks more even. the right side of mine is mostly brown while the left has what I'd call more traditional Turnbull colors. When I dropped this one off he said he was still using Turnbull. I stopped a little short of your 41 but the same flavor for sure. I thought I'd requested the Bowen sight but hadn't. Not sure I'll change it at this point. Would like to get a Clements ejector rod though.

Helluva custom. The only thing it needs now is leather and some wear and tear. Thanks for sharing.
