I ordered a new gp100 last week, and got a call from my lgs telling me it had arrived. Went over to pick it up, and we got to talking. I showed pictures of my 45c bisley with the leupold scope for deer hunting, and he showed me 2 new 45c leverguns that he got a good deal on. I couldn’t resist as my state just made it legal to hunt deer with a lever gun chambered in straight walled pistol cartridges. It has a 20” octagon barrel, and I picked the one with the prettiest wood. I am excited as in my state the only thing you could use any rifle for was squirrel hunting with 22lr.

How much of a velocity increase do you guys think I will get over a 7 1/2” barrel?

IS THIS A NEW NEW MARLIN OR A NEW OLD MARLIN? I BOUGHT BOTH A .38 SPECIAL AND .45 COLT COWBOY COMP OCTAGON , CASE HARDENED RECEIVER,20" BACK IN THE 1980s. GOOD RIFLES.JUST SHOT THEM AGAIN EARLIER THIS MONTH.

This is a new remlin. I don’t know alot about lever guns, but I couldn’t resist. It was an impulse buy at what I thought was a pretty good price. I deer hunt with my brother in law and his son. I was at their house at a bbq last weekend, and all they would talk about was buying a lever gun to hunt with this year. When the owner of the store showed them to me, I couldn’t resist

Congrats! I look forward to your impressions from your first range trip.
Are Marlins able to handle 45 Ruger only loads? I guess the simple answer would be NO (hence the name Ruger only), but I am curious if the fact that it is a rifle changes the situation here.

I guess the simple answer would be NO (hence the name Ruger only), but I am curious if the fact that it is a rifle changes the situation here. I would not load to that level for this gun. I have blackhawks capable of handling those kind of loads, and while I have shot plenty of ruger only loads in the past, I rarely shoot them nowadays. Also, with the increase in velocity from the longer barrel, there is just no need in my neck of the woods. Thanks by the way.

The Marlin 1894 easily handles the 30,000 psi Ruger Only Loads.
I have the same Octagon Barrel Version JT mentions above. They are gems by any definition.

That’s good to know encore. I probably will never shoot it to that level, but it is reassuring to know that it can handle it.

The exact same gun is chambered by Marlin in 44 Magnum. I have a custom one chambered by 429 GNR (454 Casull necked down to 44). It shoots a 240 grn at 2100 fps.

Pics or it didn't happen... Congrats on you new levergun. IMHO they are a wonderful breath of fresh air in a day of synthetic semi-autos.

I have tried and can’t figure out how to post pictures, but if someone more computer literate than me wants to pm me their email. I am smart enough to attach them to that.

On their chart it looks like around 200 fps for 18 inch barrel over 7 inch, depending on the load and bullet.

Enjoy it. Have hunted for years with an 1894 / 44Mag. Straight wall cartridges are more than enough to fill a deer tag at a reasonable distance, They arent MOA rifles, and know your limitations and remember its been around for a long time (the 45LC).

I am posting these pics on behalf of Wheelguns. Nice looking rifle with the companion revolver. Stupid "photobucket" icon right in place of the gun ;(
