I assume you went with the big bright dot on the Ultradot at 15 yards and that cocking thumb was on autopilot. That is a great looking holster.

I have it on the smallest dot setting. I had intended to switch the ULtradot Four out for a simpler Ultradot 30, but I had it dialed in so nicely I didn't want to mess with it.

I have both Ultradots and I go back and forth from simple is better to precision bullet placement is better. I don't blame you for not switching, 420's at 1400fps are not all that fun off the bench for getting retuned.

I used it on a big and nasty water buffalo in Texas in preparation and it worked so well, I didn't want to tempt fate and make any changes.

Great article and kudos to you! Having taken a Dagga Boy in 1995 with a .375 H&H Imp and a 275 grain Bitterroot bullet at under 30 yards, I can tell you that I had wanted a bigger caliber gun. They are an impressive animal. They will get your heart pumping for sure.

ya know... looking at the bigger photo in that article... Max you were hugely undergunned in that hunt, just looking at the size of that "little" BFR, up next to the buff... it's amazing that those "little" bullets have any effect on a beast that size... certainly attesting to proper bullet placement... thanks for getting us a glimpse of your incredible hunt.

Thank you. They actually do a lot of damage internally. However, placement is critical. A poorly placed 600 Nitro round will not bring one down either, so there's no arguing placement. Keep in mind my first shot, in the chest, netted about seven feet of penetration, punching all the way through the rumen which is typically a notorious bullet trap. These big calibers with the right bullets work really well on big game.

Great job on the Cape Buffalo! at least we haven't heard anything about "ft lbs of energy" from anyone. I think most here understand how big hand gun calibers kill. 7 feet of penetration gets you well on your way, along with correct placement!!
