Probably not my next rifle, but there's an old Steyr in my future. The Krag "calvary carbine" I made from a semi sportrrized rifle that the last 8-9 inches of rifling were gone. I no longer own it, but at times I think about making another. 475L , 243

My 68 Ruger 44mag carbine had a beautiful, but long gone Fajen mannlicher stock with blued cap and pistol grip cap as well with check piece. Better looking than a factory Ruger mannlicher stock IMO. I stripped the dark stain off to reveal nice grain under it and re-finished it. But then I found a semi done carbine stock that I finished to have for woods hunting and the Fajen was stolen. Had to sell that carbine last year, still miss it.

I love a full-stock carbine. I made this one from a 7.35mm M38 Carcano I inherited from my uncle. First rifle stock I've made. Good shooter- it's put meat on the table a time or two.

Cas; what kind of velocity/bullet weight do you get with the 475 L ?

Mmm..... I don't know.. I honestly don't remember and to tell the truth, I don't know that I ever choreographed most of them. My thinking being, a pistol works well and this has to be faster. I played with Speer 275gr (?) Gold Dots sold for the Ruger 480, some 325 XTP's and some 400+(?) LBT style bullets. I think I chrono'd the Speer because I figured I was possibly pushing them past what they were designed for. I shot them in to lots of different medium and they were just barely staying together enough and they didn't make me feel real comfortable on what it would do on a bad shot, so I forgot them.

I think that would make a dandy fine moose rifle with a good bullet. I wonder how it would shoot with a 500 gr Woodliegh ? Sorry to the OP. I know that rifle isn't full stocked.

Can't argue that the full stocked rifle can be a beautiful thing. Ever wonder why accuracy shooters don't shoot full stocked rifles and even go to extremes to make sure the stock, wood or otherwise, does NOT touch the barrel. Doesn't make the full stock gun any less attractive and I'd gleefully hang one on the wall but to shoot? Not me...

Back when aiming devices were made from steel and 200 yards was an almost unheard of long shot. Full stocks made more sense. I could keep my freezer full no problem with full stocked rifles.

I don't know... it's more accurate than I am anyway.

I had one of the Lipsey's M77 Stainless RSI's in 6.5x55. Loved the gun, but couldn't get it to group consistently, so ended up trading it off.
Years ago I restocked a 1903 Springfield with a full-length stock and it shot well.
Handy little rifles.

I love full stock rifles, and I wish I owned more, currently only own a Ruger M77 RSI with a Tang Safety in 308. I would really love to add a 243 and 250 to that as well with Tang's but they're priced higher than what I would want to pay.
I've never achieved great accuracy with the one I own, but it's been more than enough to take deer at all distances I've encountered.
