I've come to realize I have an appreciation for a type of shotgun, a shotgun not necessarily deigned to take game or compete with on targets. I like shotguns designed to control a situation, change an attitude, protect life and property, etc. I realize a side by side 410 (someday) can be used to defend your home, but some are designed from the get go for dealing with trouble. As I move stuff from old shop to new shop, I decided to put these on a wall and post a pic. From left to right, top to bottom
Ithaca 37 riot gun. 8 shot slam fire. If you're in a good mood, shoot this five times and you won't be. Winchester 1200 Defender nickel plated with rifle sights, unfired. The only time I ever see one of these is in a color guard. Winchester 1200 Defender, matte with shotgun sights. Remington 870 with factory extension tube and folding stock. Handmade carry handle by me (available). Whole gun Birdsong Black-T coated Remington 870 Ohio National Guard from Sportsman's Outdoor for 235 shipped. ONG logo engraved on receiver side. The factory bayonet mount would fetch 400 on E-bay quickly. Franchi Spas, unfired. Benelli M4 1014 limited with the flag on the receiver. Registered 14" gun with tacticool goodies. Benelli M4 11707 standard stock, factory breacher. Mossberg 590A1, many upgrades. Vang-Comp backbore, porting. Enidine energy absorber on Mesa pistol grip stock. Factory barrel shield, all Birdsong Black-T coated. This is a laser intimidator model but I took the forend off to keep the neat laser radiation stickers intact. Savage 720 given to me by my wife's Grandmother once her Grandfather passed away. WWII issue with flaming bomb and US markings. Story on this one later. Mossberg 500 laser intimidator, factory built in laser TMT modded Remington 870 20 gauge

Is that humpback model 2nd from the top on the right a model 11?
Nice gaggle of scatter guns, mine are mostly for use in the bird fields. I do have a 20 inch barrel and breeches choke on my old Wingmaster.

A serious gap in that collection ! (LOL). No Saiga 12ga ? Was at a 2-day shotgun course and a guy brought one. A serious box mag fed weapon. During breaks and after class we all tried each others shotguns. I liked it.

Also don't see a version of the 1st tacticool shotgun, the coach gun ? Again with the LOL. I have considered taking the coach gun to camp for grouse. It's possible that American Mil units have over the years/wars, made the most use of shotguns ? Not sure.

bula, the only other Military I am aware of that heavily uses shotguns is the Israeli Defense Force. My Dad told me that Ethiopian guard units used them in Korea during the war, but I can find no official records of that.

I did something really really stupid last week. Pair and a spare I guess. I had one of two things planned for one of them, but I changed my mind on the project. So now I have one too many.

Many things you may be, stupid isn't one of them.

I'm for sure a "When you find yourself in a hole, KEEP DIGGING!" kind of guy. I bid on another one yesterday, but didn't chase it when outbid. Just interested in the receiver as it was an M2 Tactical, D&T from the factory. The reason I bought the third one was I had the idea of putting a dot on it. Of course once I had it I thought about it, what they heck would I ever do with it? Of course that didn't stop me from throwing the bid yesterday, again because I'm stupid. I have a Supernova I'm selling after buying the last M2, that was the deal to myself. Of course that was also the same deal I made when I bought the second M2. And the Shockwave. And when I bought the first M2 about 10 years ago. And probably a few other times along the way. lmao. Difference being I've actually got it listed for sale somewhere this time. lol I just don't need it sitting around. I truly love my first M2 but it's a racegun so while I can still shoot clays with it (and the shotgun and 3-gun matches I built it for) , it's less than ideal for some other uses. I was frequently drawn to the idea of picking up a beater police trade in Super90 and almost did a couple years ago.But logic kept saying "What are you going to do with it?" So I tried to be smart... "If you buy an SBE, you can do the same thing with it, plus set it up as a backup gun for matches, and have a second turkey gun! So I bought and chopped an SBE. Cool as I think it is and as much as I like it, I guess it didn't scratch that original itch, because I was back to looking for beater M1's. (honestly didn't buy them because they looked too nice) Last time around I found the beater M2 and bought it... which was extremely dumb, because I could have bought a much nicer M1 for a lot less money. But that's what late night spite bidding gets you. lol So yeah, I also have a 500, 590, 870, 37, A5 and 1100... not to mention a stack of single shots. So I reeeeeally didn't need that last M2. Oh yeah... this last round of stupid really all started because I got the Benelli M4 itch again, but was still convinced they're too much money to sit in the safe 364 days a year. So I talked myself out of one again... and into a Beretta 1301 Tactical. With plans to put an RMR on it... which would have put me at the same price as the M4 and not gotten any more use. So right when I was ready to buy... I talked myself out of that too, and back to the beater. Which I over paid for and eventually bought two of, putting me in the same ball park as the other two I didn't buy because they cost too much. Does that make sense? lmao

I've got a 3 1/2 year old Mossberg 930 Security/Field Combo that has been flawless- any load, rain or shine, from four below to 110 degrees. I shortened the stock on that one for my wife, but its robust design and stone reliability led me to the JM Pro. I selected the 22” version with the intention of removing the magazine extension and restoring it to field length, during the hunting seasons. I had a Remington 870 Special Purpose for awhile and I find these 21-22 inch guns about perfect, in actual use. This new one was a QC train wreck. Loose magazine extension components, the recoil pad was loose (stripped screw) safety button sits ridiculously high and it required the recoil system and chamber to be deburred and polished before it would function more than three shots. I fixed it myself- I don’t buy guns to ship them back and forth for repairs. What I did wouldn't add ten minutes per shotgun on the assembly line. This one has run like a top with everything since the rebuild, which shouldn’t have been necessary on a brand new shotgun that retails over 800 bucks.

Mossberg Shockwave... Range guns. They shoot 12 and 20 gauge shotguns shells but.... Per the ATF... not shotguns. Customers on our range love them. They have proven to be tough reliable little beasts.

I'm not much of a shotgunner & a terrible wing shooter (extremely cross-dominant), but have a 20" M590A1 with ghost ring sights & NOS wood 'riot gun' furniture, along with the TALO Shockwave for bump in the night duty.
