$3500 is a lot of money but if you study what that gun really is you will see that it’s a bargain.

That's due to having the rare undiluted cylinder option...

You might have the biggest Bowen Best Grade collection out there.
Glad for the hint from Curtis that got me looking twice, and the inclusion in the book is icing on the cake. I feel like having a gun that was a featured example in a publication increases salability and often price.
Good snag and I'm looking forward to a detailed writeup.

I have to agree with potatojudge on this one. What made this such a steal is the gun shop having little to no clue about the gun it was trying to sell. A phone call to Hamilton, much better pictures and a more informative description could have netted them a substantially higher sales price. One has to wonder how little the owner who sold the gun to the shop received for the gun and why he/she didn’t impart more knowledge to the shop when selling. I don’t think this was the case with this gun, but this could be an object lesson on leaving your heirs a description, including a realistic value, of your guns and the name and number of someone knowledgeable in our hobby to help them realize the most value from your toys when you’re gone. Great snag Greg! Tim

It sold on gunsamerica several years back as well. There is another picture in Bowens book of that gun. I wonder how many of us called Hamilton about this gun last week.

Soooo....the story is...
There's a collector in MN who just retired and he's trying to pay off his house. His guns arw going to Boone's.
A Bowen MkII sold last week by this seller that was one of the first guns Hamilton built. I sold it on Ruger Forum about 5 years ago and it had all sorts of targets and paperwork with it that was not included in the auction last week. Tragic....
Fast forward to last week. Combat Vaquero built by Bowen for sale by same seller. I got in a bidding war with Wildwillalaska about 5 years ago over it on Gunauction. He won. I was after that gun for years and he wouldn't sell it. Well I guess he eventually did cause there it was for sale again. First time around it had an auxillary cylinder. Not this time....I called the seller and told them they really needed to contact the consignor and ask about the cylinder. Lo and behold they shut down the auction until they can get the cylinder and take more pictures.
I don't understand why the guy giving the gun shop the guns doesn't tell them what they are. He surely knows or at least knew. Go figure.
It's a shame folks are getting these things that are clueless. Well sometimes it comes out in our favor.
BTW...I didn't call Hamilton...
