I posted this in the CCH thread, but thought I would add some pictures here. A birdshead Single Six in 32 H&R. I had the revolver for maybe 12 years in it's original form. I liked it, but wanted it shorter. Well... the bluing was getting thin in a few places, and the factory "CCH" was looking pretty thin and dull as well, so the time seemed right for a little change. Bobby Tyler did the work on this one. I asked him to get the barrel short...between 3-3.5" if possible. He shortened the barrel and fit a dovetailed front sight. Removed the "billboard." Also fit a USFA ejector rod housing. I call it "serpentine," as it has a curve which allows the ejector rod to cam off to the side as it nears the frame, allowing in theory for a longer stroke, and I can remove the base pin with the ejector rod in place. It may have a more official name? He also fit a bisley style hammer and trigger from Power Custom. The trigger pull went from terrible to terrific after he finished all his work. All in all...it turned out just as I'd hoped in terms of proportions. Now to get some sweet LSCG grips on her!

so, I like the idea of the dove tail sights... I've done a couple dovetail front sights... on a polished stainless gun, & brass sights from Lone Wolf, on a pair of cartridge converted 51 Navies... but how does one file down the dovetail base on a steel sight, that is installed into a blued & finished barrel, without damaging the bluing on the barrel??? I found the brass was soft enough, that I could conform it to the barrel, with some tape for protection, but would think the steel sight would take more work, increasing the chances of damaging the finish on the barrel...

Mike, I’m just a bit confused by your question. Why would you file the “dovetail base”?? Ideally one would establish the height needed by filing the factory unit since it’s coming off. If it’s already too short then you have a pickle. Either send the Smith ammo to establish that height or you would have to do it yourself and finish the blue up after. The dovetail fronts are excellent. Far sharper sight picture and they fix the windage issue. I’m currently building one for those Rugers with an adjustable rear that has the rear blade cocked too far off to one side. Let me know if you need one.

Sorry, if that was corn fusing... I like to round ( conform ) the dovetail to fit the barrel radius, after it's sighted in ( after any windage correction has been made )... to me, having the extra dovetail sticking out looks unfinished... on this dovetail sight, the dovetail base was radiused & blended in after the gun was sighted in... ( easier to do on a stainless gun )

That is a sweet little .32! I'm a sucker for CCH frames and short barrels! Very nice!
