I have two Delta Elites that I have had and shot for many years now. Also have two Dan Wesson 1911 10's. Love them and highly recommend the 1911 platform for the 10mm. I did have all three of the glock 10's and shot them a lot. They all ended up going down the road. Just shoot and enjoy the 1911 platform way more. I also had a Kimber 10. It was not very reliable no matter what I did. Very magazine picky.

I have the Ruger Night Watchman and its a real shooter, flawless in operation, good trigger and shoots S&B factory as well as anything. I like the grips myself.

Just started shooting 10mmthree years ago...have owned:
Glock 40/4
Glock 20/3
Glock 29/3
RIA Combat Commander
Kimber Stainless Target II
PARA-USA Elite LS Hunter (now made by Remington)
Ruger GP-100 Match Champion
Bought the Gloack 40 first for the specific purpose of a "vehicle gun" vs. one of the short barrel rifle caliber pistols. Much easier to maneuver inside a car than one of the long magazine short rifles...
The RIA was less than $500 but is just as accurate as any of the other guns...it is very plain but has never had any malfunction of any kind. A lot of gun for the money. There is a nice used one for sale right now on GunBroker for $399.00.
Bought the PARA at retail right after they stopped making them after being told by Remington that they would NOT be making any guns in 10mm...I guess they changed their minds as a year later they brough out the same gun with the Remington name on it... Excellent shooter, zero problems.
Kimber Stainless Taregt II...bought one because I wanted a 5" 10mm and had a .38 Super that was just a stellar shooter. Happened upon a guy selling some brand new Kimber barrels in .40 S&W .38 Super and 10mm...only wanted the .40 so I could shoot cheap ammo in the 10mm and then found out that Kimber cut the breechface of the 10mm and .38 Supers the same...bought all three barrels..and later found a 9mm Kimber barrel also. So now that one 10mm will run 10mm, .40, .38 Super and 9mm...as well as a .22 Conversion Unit and a fitted .45 Slide...
Then found a G20/3 that had been fully customized...absolutely hated the gun...same with the G29/3 purchased shortly there after...both went down the road. Didn't like the recoil and the trigger really abraded my finger... I'll take a 1911 any time...
If I had just one it would be the Kimber Stainless Target II....very accurate and reliable. Kimber now has a Stainless Target 6" Long Slide that is getting good reviews also. I happen to like a smooth front strap which is why I don't have many of the other brands of 1911s...just don't care for front strap checking...

This might fit the bill for an open sighted option. It's made in the South (Huntsville, Ala). Haven't had a R1 Longslide, but wish I had kept the two AMT's I had. Longslide is like driving a Lincoln, the old ones, compared to a VW. Smooth, easy recoil compared to quick and bumpy. Of course, like some other guns I've had...as soon as I sold them the price doubled...

I have the Ruger Night Watchman and its a real shooter, flawless in operation, good trigger and shoots S&B factory as well as anything. I like the grips myself. How is the accuracy? I like the nitride finish and bushingless bull barrel. My son has a Night Watchman 45 ( Commander) that has been flawless.

I have not benched it, just shot offhand at 50 feet with it. It hits where I point it. It will keep most of its shots inside 3 inches for me, offhand, which is more than adequate for my uses.

Bought a Springfield XDM last month. Not a bad gun. Haven't tried it for accuracy yet. Don't know the next time I'll get to the range. I do know that my 6" barrel GP-100 conversion kicks a whole lot less with the same factory ammo than the XDM.

I have a ruger sr1911 10mm. It is a very nice piece for the price. The 1911s seem to launch brass into the next county the way the come out of the box even with factory loads. My warm handloads made it even worse. To remedy that I swapped to a wilson flat bottom firing pin stop, 34lb hammer spring and 24-26lb recoil spring, then shortened the ejector. Now with 220gr wfn's at 1250fps brass ejects about 6 feet in a nice controlled cluster. I have since added a fusion 357 sig barrel for multi-caliber fun.

For woods protection, I recommend the XD or the Glock 20. My main reason there is capacity. The Glock needs an aftermarket barrel for lead from my experience as the stock barrel doesn't shoot lead well. I reload anyway, so I bought KKM barrels when I bought the gun because they have fully sypported chambers. I also added adjustable night sights, a 22 lb. recoil spring, and a Ghost Trigger trigger bar.
I havr a stock length KKM barrel for carrying on the trail/camping, and for target (or hunting) I have a 6 inch barrel. KKM has told me their Glock 40 7 inch barrel who fit as well.
I think the 1911s are more confortable to shoot with the 10mm, honestly. But for me, I wanted more capacity. If it was purely hunting or target for me, I'd buy the new Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer in 10mm. Ive had a really good experience with my .45 ACP Range Officer.

The kimber camp guard is very appealing to me! My brother has one and loves it. Total reliability out of his. I also read somewhere that the camp guard has the most/best case support than any of the other production 1911 10mm. Something to consider with it being a higher pressure cartridge. Should prolong case life for reloading. I do not own a 10mm yet, however I find myself collecting 10mm brass at the local gun club every chance I get!

...all that brass that other 10mm shooters loose....
Took my PARA long slide to the range yesterday along with a Long Slide Marvel .22 Conversion on a 1968 Colt frame...
Both shot just really well. That extra inch really makes a difference in recoil especially with heavy 10mm loads.
Shot some top end reloads with 155 Gold Dots, 165 Berry's plated and some 200 Montana Hard Cast... All shot to very close to the same POA. The 200s do kick noticeably harder....
Need to get the G40 out next time with the PARA and see how they do head to head...

Looking at Buds and I see
1. Kimber Custom II black finish for $645.00 2. Ruger SR 1911 stainless for $810.00 3. Springfield Operator for 975.00 4. Kimber Custom TLE for 759.00
These are what peaked my interest for less than grand.
Anybody have any opinions on these.

Don't think you can go wrong with any of them...
The #1 thing I look for is whether the frontstrap is checkered...that is a deal breaker for me as I like smooth...that eliminates and lot of models for me...

I had a Kimber but really didn't care for it. I ended up with a Ruger SR1911 Target which I really like. Actually, it is now my primary service pistol and hog slayer.

I have settled on the Sig P220 Elite SAO with the Nitron finish as my hunting and woods carry 10mm. EGW offers a great mount for the Trijicon RMR to top it off.
