The barrel arrived and I indicated it for threading and chambering. First the outside is rough indexed using dials on the outside diameter. This gets it close enough to indicate the lands using pin gauges. Lastly, fine indexing is done by dialing each groove to a ten-thousandth or less (<0.0001”). Shilens are normally so good you can dead zero every groove. Meaning all six are held to near 0.0000” runout. How to read a Shilen barrel stub 12:00 moving clockwise: 9.3mm – the caliber S = Stainless 5.5 = contour (medium weight) 12 = twist 6 = groove count SM = select match grade (Shilen’s best) It’ll get chambered in the next few days. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Am curious: Do you intend to have that 1908 action recarburized/heat treated once all of the action work is complete? Just curious.

Any updates on this project? I’m both a sporting Mauser and 9.3x62 geek, so I’m just getting impatient to see your progress! Thanks

Always love the work in progress pictures Lee. As do I. Especially the revolver work.

I’m embarrassed to say the barrel is still sitting in my lathe. I’ve been shooting benchrest matches every weekend and swaging bullets during the week. I did thread it however. The tenon was machined 1.10 O.D. by 0.625” long: Relief cut was made 0.130” deep: Threads were cut 12 tpi: I plan on chambering it in the next week or two. And while I’ve been procrastinating, my dad built his own 9.3x62 on a Czech Mauser 98. We'll put in on paper soon. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Lee given that the barrel rests against the action at the larger part of the barrel, why a relief cut sir?

Lee given that the barrel rests against the action at the larger part of the barrel, why a relief cut sir? Mauser internal threads run all the way to the main ring. Threading to the shoulder is tough. The recess provides a definitive stopping point. When I reach it, just disengage the threading feed. My dad has a set-up on his big Colchester that provides auto stop (aka auto-disengage) within a thousandth of a inch. But I'm accustomed to this old Heavy 10. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

This has gone dormant way too long. I recently got back on it and will finish the rifle in short order. Pre-boring the chamber: Finishing reamer: Rasping the barrel inlet to accept the heavier Shilen contour: Like so many of our customs, the rifle will be ‘utilitarian clean’. Engraving, fancy wood, and extravagant finishes just aren’t our thing. Perhaps because all that adds to the price, but adds nothing to performance. This’ll round out as follows: Stock – black & gray laminate with ¾” rubber recoil pad Barrel – cut to 24”. Polished stainless, no coating Sights – NECG fully adjustable rear behind their masterpiece front ramp w/gold bead Optics – quick detach Leupold rings. Not sure which scope yet, but it’ll likely be a 4 – 12 x 40mm Leupold Trigger – Timney Bedding – Acraglas Gel Action finish – Mahovsky’s Metalife hardchrome -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I am a big fan of the 9.3's I have a 9.3x74R single shot that I have killed a truck load of game with authority. I just finished acquiring all the parts to put together my Blaser R8 in 9.3x62. I'm a proponent of "knock'em down".
