Wasn't even looking for one but while perusing GB the other day, I saw one while looking at a sellers other wares. Started looking around to compare prices and well, there weren't any to compare to! They made 2000 of these Grade 1 rifles in the Krag and 5000 in '06 in the mid 80's. The one I bid on, only bid btw, looks to be near new and has the box. I should have it in a couple of weeks hopefully. Anyone else have one of these? I had been sort of looking for another '95 since I sold my .405 after using it on one critter in RSA a few years ago. I do like the model.

I had one once. Not sure what grade it was, just the basic version. Very well made and completely reliable. Eventually it sat in the safe to long so it was sold to finance the next gotta have firearm. I think you will like it. I found it was not nearly as awkward to handle as it looks like it would be. Nice gun.

Tried looking for a picture on the www this morning, & there was a listing of one on Paco Kelleys Lever Guns, but the pictures suffered the old Photobucket MIA problem...
do these look like the Winchester 95's???

Beautiful guns and much better than even the original. The 30-40 is a great choice of calibers.
Cannot go wrong with these classics...

Tried looking for a picture on the www this morning, & there was a listing of one on Paco Kelleys Lever Guns, but the pictures suffered the old Photobucket MIA problem... do these look like the Winchester 95's??? They look nearly identical, but for a shorter barrel, a good thing in my view, and small differences in the forearm and buttplate style. The nice thing about the Browning compared to the later Win re entry, is there is no rebounding hammer or tang safety on the Browning. I get along fine with either system, but prefer the original style as do most. .30-40 ammo is still being made and brass can be found. I just found on GB a seller who had 4 boxes of Win factory loads (newer) for $80 shipped! Needless to say its on the way here.

I have a 30-40 Krag Carbine in my milsurp collection, and like the round, and already load for it... Sounds like an interesting rifle IMO

Got it late yesterday. Looks good overall, though it had been dropped on its muzzle end by someone, not USPS as shipping box was fine. Seller says he didn't do it, my FFL guy says he didn't do it, so it is what it is. I have already taken stones to it and smoothed off the damage about 95 percent and cold blued it, inner crown was not touched thankfully. Box is Browning for a 95 but SN doesn't match, oh well. Hope to shoot it next Monday

Now you just need a nice steel receiver sight to go on it.

Don't plan to drill any holes in it until I see how it works out. I get along OK with open sights given time.

Waiting for the range report. Great rifle. My cousin was a cowman/rancher and carried a Winchester 95 30/40 Krag in a saddle scabbard for decades, and used it to great effect. He bought and collected several 95s in 30-40 over the years.

Great rifle, great cartridge! Ken Waters had one rebored to 35 Winchester which always caught my fancy. A '95 is on my "lookout list", we just haven't crossed paths when I had discretionary funds yet.

Had it to the range twice now, results are mixed, mostly I suspect because of sighting issues, mine. Small bead, small notch in the buckhorn, bad light etc.. I wish these came d&t'd for a peep sight, I almost hate to drill it though. I pulled a few Win factory loads the other day so as to make dummy feed test rounds. I was surprised to find from 46-47 grs of ball powder under the 180 gr Power Point bullets. They did seem fairly peppy as well. I loaded up today with some 220 Hornady RN slugs with 4350 which the Lyman manual said was the accuracy powder for that weight. Pretty sure that may be right as with one charge, forget which I put 3 in just over an inch and then dropped the 4th down about 2 inches, again sight issues. Having resolved the feed problem with little difficulty once I could see the problem was a relief. I really didn't want to ship it off.
I now have a Win/Miroku 95 .405 on the way to play with again.. Had one for a while then sold it. Should have that in a week or so.
