How do the 5 shot cylinders of the custom 475L and 500L double actions compare to the stock cylinders for diameter and length? I assume that they are all built on either the Redhawk or Super Redhawk. Seems like a forum member has one built by Jack Huntington... Looks like I may have traded for one of my own.... I should have mine in hand next week. I'll post my numbers and pics then...

Bowen does them on SRH & RH revolvers. I'd sure use the Hogue grip on mine if I had one.

Here is the one Bowen did for me, standard grip and 6" barrel with rough country sights. I have 4 different .512" cast bullet moulds (385gr LFNPB,LBT 420gr LFNPB,MM 435gr WFNGC and the NEI 460gr Keith and and it shoots all 4 good. The cylinder itself looks to be the same size as my Custom SA cylinders. I am at work so it is hard to remember. Sean

I bought the Bowen 500L that he had posted on his "For Sale" list... When the price dropped to $1595 I couldn't take it. Current base price on the conversion is $1895.... This one has the Rough Country rear sight and a trigger stop... Ordered the Hogue grip for it..... Big heap of 410 WFNs and 440 LFNs waiting in the shop....

My Redhawks (44 & 45) had Hogue, the stock, now Pachmayr rubber / plastic grips. Was thinking of Herrets but have never used them before (custom or standard? Troopers or Ropers?). The Hogue's felt good but don't shoot good for me. The Pachmayr's shoot better but are ugly. Did I mention they're ugly?
I really wish I'd figure out how to make a set of Ropers. I think Herrets run about $100 and I'm told custom's are about a 6-8 weeks wait. But they are nice wood an have a stellar reputation.
No SRHs live here....

I highly recomend Hogue Tamers for this application. This first picture compares early factory SRH grips with Hogue wrap-arounds and Tamers on the left. Ths next photo shows the Tamer next to the wrap-around and you can clearly see the difference in contour and size. Lastly, you can see the urethane insert in the Tamer.

Jack Huntington did both of my SRH conversions -- my .475 and my .500 Linebaugh. I am roughly two weeks away from receiving my .500, but here is a photo of my .475 Linebaugh.

Expecting my FFL to call any day now.... How does the factory ring set seem to be holding up on your 475? Looks like an Ultra dot. How is it holding up?... Do I see factory marking on the barrel? It start life as a 480? That should be the low buck path to a custom 475L....

I originally had a set of Redfield rings and I sheared the locating studs off in short order. The Ruger rings are well worth the additional expense. While I check them periodically, they haven't loosened in a couple of years. The Ultradot 30 is first rate -- $150.00 shipped with a lifetime warranty. It has held up to thousands of full-tilt loads without a hiccup and has been dropped twice out of tree stands with no ill effect to the unit or the zero -- to say I am satisfied with this setup would be an understatement of epic proportions!

I'm glad you got that 500 Super redhawk because I don't know how much longer I could hold off! I trust you will post some more pic's and tell us how it shoots?

The are factory stock on hte JTL revolver, and they appear to be, and from a gunsmith I comm. with years ago in Sweden, about as good as it gets.
