A very sweet looking sixgun! Wish I were 8,000 miles closer and had a pocketful of money burning a hole in said pocket...

I kinda like that! I have a question about it though. On the loading gate side you see the normal two pins. On the other side you see three slotted screw heads. What is the third screw/pin for? Im refering to the one thats forward of the standard two.

Is there a functional reason behind the scalloped recoil sheild?

Is there a functional reason behind the scalloped recoil sheild? It's aesthetic with minor weight reduction. I just want that cylinder. The rest of the gun needs to be a flat top bisley with a more svelte front sight base.

I agree a more elegant front sight base would be much nicer, also a Bisley. If it were I might have to buy it, although Whits old little black 480 is a sweetheart I kinda wish I hadn’t passed on.

How is the sight blade held in the base? Is it just a roll pin like from the factory?

It's my understanding the rear portion of that base has some extra meat that can be whittled away, but I've never seen one in cross section so I wouldn't swear to it. The DX system IMO is second only to the Stroh front sight. DX has the edge in functionality, Stroh a big leap ahead in aesthetics.

I don't care for the front sight base either. That build is a standard 5 shot Kenai Special with the scalloped gate and shield....plain and simple.

True, but it's my understanding that JRH does a mid-frame 480- so not that exact cylinder, but one like it. Also, one could flat top a stainless full size Blackhawk. The Rough Country sight looks weird on a flat top, so let's make it a target sight while we're at it. I don't get the bevel on the bottom of the grips with a lanyard ring. It's not like you can do a pinky-under grip, so why not make them flat bottomed for a little extra purchase? That all said, I'd own that gun in a heartbeat and not feel compelled to change it.

I thought about the DX also but I guess I didnt realize how far back the pin was in the base. Lol, I didnt bother to check my S&W DX revolvers.
