I only have one old Colt SAA, a 1906 or ‘07 Model, and it’s been tuned by Mr. Bowen. I think guys used to cut a little piece of leather and put it under the flat mainspring to give it a little extra “spring”. Might get your friend by for another couple of decades.
It’s mighty nice of you to help him out with the gun. It always fun to bring one back.

The Colt Frontier Scout is essentially a 7/8 size "replica" of the Colt SAA. The grips are actually about the same size as the full sized SAA but configured a bit differently. The Grip frame is one piece (as opposed to two separate pieces - trigger guard and back strap - on the SAA). The main spring is totally different from a center fire Colt. You will need to search for parts for a Colt Frontier Scout or Peacemaker 22, you will not be able to modify SAA parts to fit.

well one of my first guns i bought here about 11 years ago was one of these of the Colt Forum...seller acted odd which i should have know was a problem...gun came with a corroded nickeled frame with partial serial number missing...but what it gave me was a education how to take one of these apart and they are not the best but parts are available for sure...i had to give up the frame after the seller disappeared and i sold the parts for what i had invested...but i know there was a few people out there on the Colt Forum who might have any parts u need..always love seeing old unloved stuff resurrected...God Bless,John please show us some pics when it is all done....

Do you guys remember this gun??? I wish I would have taken better before pictures... They called me & said it should be ready to pick up this weekend... I had the whole gun Duracoated, & a new main spring fit, that I had purchased... I have some new replacement fake stag grips coming, that are solid, rather than the "cap gunish" blow molded originals, that didn't hold up the 1st possum skull cracking that was needed
I'm looking forward to getting this picked up, as they also have a Ruger aluminum grip frame Cerocoated for one of my guns, that Zane custom fit a set of grips for...

How do people let guns get in that kind of condition?

It was so dirty & cruddy when I 1st saw it, I couldn't even tell what it was... I was betting it was a Rohm...

I've also got an old '62 Frontier Scout. Mine is original and it actually looks like a factory "spray" paint job.
I have read that the original finish was only done like that in 1962.
It still shoots nice.

She's not high class... but is more corrosion resistant, & looks much better than the "as found" pictures... flaws in the Gun Kote are pits from rust... thought I'd throw one of those "as found" pictures between for effect

Ain’t nothing wrong with that, esp considering what you started with.

It's going back to the owner as soon as we can clear the snow between our farms... he confirmed this was his 1st handgun... he's seen the pictures & say's he's not going to leave it in the barn anymore... if I had known that for sure... I would have had the cylinder & barrel reblued... if it was going back in the barn, I figured the gun kote would offer better rust resistance... it has a newly fit main spring, & I'm sending him back the original ( tied to the gun )

That before picture really does show what I was describing as "spray" finish on a '62. After seeing your after pics, I may have mine refinished. Very nice.
