Why in the world do folks insist on frying turkeys?
My Weber and some apple wood chips work just fine and I don't risk burning the house down.
I thought it was just a fad.....

Frying whole turkeys has it's place but on T-Day I'd rather have the bird in a cooking bag, in the oven. A Webber and light smoking a great plan-B. Anyways, having the deep fryer close to the house is operator error and no fault of deep frying. The smoked bird makes fantastic soup stock..

Spatchcock your turkey. I’ll do one today on a traeger. Will be delicious. Takes way less time and it’s not dry. HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I just saw an anchor woman on the news. They were doing a remote shot from her kitchen. She had two turkeys. She said we will cook one the traditional way, in the oven, and the other they will deep fry. Then she said, “ I usually deep fry it outside, but since it is so cold out, I am just going to do it in the kitchen”. I wonder if she will be the top story tomorrow on the news. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

NOTHING...beats a turkey after a good smoking in a Weber! I will be standing around with the men in our family later today doing just that! Been a tradition our families since forever!

Because the fire dept. needs to be kept on their toes on Turkey day,.....no time for complacency
One year we had a turkey frying service go up in flames on Thanksgiving eve, lots of folks upset about having paid and no turkey. There were folks asking us (FD) if we could “rinse off” turkeys so they could take them home. Trapr

One of my favorite meals as a kid was when my dad made a turkey on the Weber grill. He would make one or two every summer. These days I have a couple Traegers I use a LOT, and my favorite thing to smoke is jerky. Ok, my second favorite is turkey breast. I haven't made a whole bird yet, but it's usually only me eating it.

Yep....
Soup soon....
I have to have TDII on Saturday though....when we make all the dishes we love but didn't make on TDI.
Then off to soup on Sunday.
The 4hr quick brine and 4 1/2 hours on the grill were perfect!

Fried birds in general are excellent eating. It also frees up my oven for other things. No right or wrong way to cook a bird. Frying a turkey is no different than chicken, but because it’s so much larger any screw up is that much larger and more damaging.

The Summit did an outstanding job on our (fairly large) turkey and made basting WAY easier than doing it in the oven. If you think a Weber 22 incher does a nice bird, try the Summit with the diffuser plate.

It has all the advantages of the Kettle and the Big Green Egg and none of the weaknesses. Let us know how yours cooks when it comes in
